La Vuelta Stage 12 Profile

The 2023 La Vuelta Stage 12 starts at Olvega and travels, mostly downhill, towards the finish line in Zaragoza. This stage has a sprint finish written all over it and any breakaway will find it hard to stay in front late on when the terrain is mostly downhill. The stage is 150.6 km (93.6 miles) long and the starting time is 12:58 GMT. Meanwhile, the  estimated finish time is 16:30 GMT.

Stage 12 profile
From La Vuelta official website

The route gives us just 888 climbing metres and almost twice as many metres on the descent. A sprint finish is the most likely outcome.

The last 35 kilometres of the 12th stage are pan-flat, so a bunch sprint is next to certain. The two small climbs in the middle are not even categorised and they won’t bother the sprinters much as any small time they lose they will gain quickly on the downhill after.

Our betting tips and predictions for La Vuelta Stage 12

With the 2023 La Vuelta now on its way, all eyes are on team Jumbo-Visma which contains the two main favourites for the overall win. However, many other riders have high aspirations and this easy stage is another day during which the fastest sprinters will be hoping to grab the win.

Our Outright Prediction: Kaden Groves @ 10/11 (1.91)

The fastest man of the 2023 La Vuelta Kaden Groves already grabbed 2 stage wins and was inches away from a third a few days back. Groves has the green jersey all but secured already. The Aussie is hungry for more stage triumphs though and he has to be our favourite to win again as so far not many managed to challenge him when it came to a sprint finish.

Our Each-way Prediction: Andreas Kron @ 1/4 (1.25)

Andreas Kron has been showing good acceleration and speed in the spring finishes so far. He was a bit unlucky with traffic once or twice but if he has some clear road ahead of him Kron could be able to challenge Groves. In any case, we think a top 3 finish is likely for Kron.

Our Dark Horse Prediction: Filippo Ganna @ 44/1 (45.00)

For our dark horse to win stage 12 we pick the winner of the recent individual time trial Filippo Ganna. The powerful Italian is one of the few riders out there who could withstand pressure from the peloton for 20-30 km  on a flat and still stay in front.

So, in the unlikely scenario of a breakaway building some decent lead and Ganna being part of it we think he is the only one out there that could actually prevent a sprint finish.

La Vuelta Stage 12 Odds

Now we’ve made our picks here are the odds for the top 10 favourites to win Stage 12:

Kaden Groves 10/11 (1.91)

Andrea Vendrame 3/1 (4.00)

Alberto Dainese 3/1 (4.00)

Andreas Kron 10/1 (11.00)

Marijn Van Den Berg 16/1 (17.00)

Edward Theuns 16/1 (17.00)

Geoffrey Soupe 22/1 (23.00)

Dreis Van Gestel 22/1 (23.00)

Wout Poels 40/1 (41.00)

Remco Evenepoel 40/1 (41.00)

As the list of the 10 top favourites shows it’s all about the sprinters. Only at the end of the top 10 two decent breakaway riders can be found but it seems the bookies, just like us, believe there will be a sprint finish.

Our dark horse pick Ganna is not among the top 10 favourites. He is a long shot anyway but watch out for him if he is to join a successful breakaway.
