It is difficult to get rid of Pegula in the opening rounds. The American star has made little work of the opposition and has yet to falter at the first stage in 2023. She has reached the quarter-final stage in five of the last seven Grand Slams and arrives at Flushing Meadows in style. She claimed the Montreal Open title for herself and will be looking to go the distance in front of an adoring home crowd.
Jessica Pegula’s next match – US Open mixed doubles Final vs Anna Danilina / Harri Heliovaara
Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton gave a good account of their abilities in the semi-finals against Pegula and her mixed doubles partner, Austin Krajicek. The first set tiebreaker favoured the young American duo but Pegula and co. were unwilling to go down without a fight. It was a 6-1 washout in their favour and the resulting tiebreaker had a similar fate.
Jessica and Austin’s next task will be against Anna Danilina and Harri Heliovaara in the final of the US Open mixed doubles. It is for all the marbles and both pairings will be looking to impress. With the exception of their first-round three-setter, Danilina and Heliovaara have not needed a deciding set. On the other hand, Pegula and Karjicek have seen three of their four matches in mixed-doubles decided on the tiebreaker. It is the American duo who are favourites to triumph but given the form of their rivals, anything can happen.
Jessica Pegula’s 2023 campaign so far
Despite being born in extreme wealth Jessica Pegula has always been one of the hardest-working players on the Tour. Happily married and not worried about money Jess has focused all her energy on doing what she loves to do and this is playing tennis.
Her 2023 results so far only confirm her status as one of the best players on the Tour right now. Despite early exits both at the Australian Open (quarterfinal) and the French Open (round 3), Pegula maintained her status as America’s Number One thanks to 2 Major quarterfinals and a title at Miami’s Masters. Pegula is also very busy in doubles and she’s reached world number 2 in doubles with her partner Coco Gauff.
Current WTA ranking – where is Pegula on the WTA rankings?
