2023 La Vuelta Schedule: all you need to know for the race
La Vuelta schedule for Saturday, August 26th
Stage 1: Barcelona – Barcelona (team time trial) – 14.8 km (9.2 miles)
Flat stage with a very technical circuit through Barcelona. The finish is at the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina.
Starting time: 18:05 GMT

La Vuelta schedule for Sunday, August 27th
Stage 2: Mataro – Barcelona (hilly) – 181.1 km (112.5 miles)
Short climbs from the start. Several of them scattered throughout. The last one the iconic climb up to the Monjuic castle. The finish is again at the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina.

La Vuelta schedule for Monday, August 28th
Stage 3: Suria – Arinsal (Andorra) (mountains) – 158.8 km (98.7 miles)
The stage finishes in mountainous dwarf country of Andorra and it’s famous ski resort Arinsal. This will be the first proper test for the climbers.

Stage 4: La Vella (Andorra) – Tarragona (flat) – 184.6 km (114.7 miles)
The first flat stage on the La Vuelta schedule. A day for the sprinters. The finish is in the coastal town of Tarragona.

La Vuelta schedule for Wednesday, August 30th
Stage 5: Morella – Burriana (hilly) – 186.2 km (115.7 miles)
Good stage for a breakaway. The terrain is hilly early on. Flattens for the final 50 km.

Stage 6: La Vall d’Uxio – Javalambe Observatory (mountains) – 186.2 km (115.7 miles)
This is the first brutal stage in the mountains. The finish is high above sea level, where the eagles nest. The first big moves can be expected in that stage.

Stage 7: Utiel – Oliva (flat) – 200.8 km (124.8 miles)
The flat terrain of this stage has a spring finish written all over it.

Stage 8: Denia – Xorret de Cati (mountains) – 165 km (102.5 miles)
Another brutal day in the mountains. Lots of climbs, many of them very steep. Tricky downhills too.

Stage 9: Cartagena – Caravaca de la Cruz (hilly) – 184.5 km (114.6 miles)
Good stage for a breakaway. There is a very long 11.5 km climb right in the middle of it.

Monday, September 04th – first rest day of the La Vuelta

Stage 10: Valladolid – Valladolid (individual time trial) – 25.8 km (16 miles)
Only one short climb. The rest of the terrain is flat.

Stage 11: Lerma – Laguna Negra (mountains) – 163.2 km (101.4 miles)
Flat start before a sharp rise up to the legendary Laguna Negra lake. A day for the GC contenders to attack each other.

Easy stage that goes mostly downhill. Sprint finish can be expected.
