La Vuelta red jersey odds

Below, we give you the current odds for the La Vuelta winner. Here are the top 5 riders placed based on their odds of becoming the 2023 La Vuelta winner:

Jonas Vingegaard 6/4 (2.50) [was 6/5 (2.20 at the start of the race]

Primoz Roglic 6/4 (2.50) [was 9/4 (3.25 at the start of the race]

Remco Evenepoel 50/1 (51.00) [was 7/2 (4.50 at the start of the race]

Juan Ayuso 8/1 (9.00) [was 7/1 (8.00 at the start of the race]

Geraint Thomas 1000/1 (1001.00) [was 14/1 (15.00 at the start of the race]

It is painfully obvious that the winner of the 2023 Tour de France Jonas Vingegaard comes as the main favourite. However, there is a reason why it is so hard to win back-to-back Grand Tours and it is the amount of energy it takes out of a rider to achieve just one such triumph. Still, the manner of Vingegaard’s success this year means he will be a contender.

His main rival also happens to be his teammate at the mighty team Jumbo-Visma Primoz Roglic. Roglic skipped the Tour this summer after winning the Giro d’Italia earlier in the year. He loves this race and is a 3-time La Vuelta champion. He’s certainly coming for nothing else but a 4th triumph.

Last year’s La Vuelta champion Remco Evenepoel is a young rider and despite his odds placing him only 3rd on the favourites list he proved in 2022 that he knows how to climb the hills of Spain. Unfortunately, Remco had a few bad days in the mountains and he sits over 16 minutes behind after Stage 15, so he doesn’t look likely to be able to defend his La Vuelta crown.

Juan Ayuso is another young rider who is expected to benefit from the many mountainous and hilly stages as he tries to cause an upset.

At age 37 Geraint Thomas is about to ride just his second La Vuelta. He has been chosen as the leader of the mighty Ineos team and he will be given good support. The demands of the race proved too much though and Geraint is over an hour behind after Stage 15, so all he has to fight for from now on is a stage win.

La Vuelta red jersey: Our prediction

We simply can’t see past the exciting duel that we predict will transpire between the two Jumbo-Visma teammates Vingegaard and Roglic. Right now it is hard to pick between those two but as Roglic rested in the summer and he loves riding the Vuelta we go with him for the overall win this year.
