The San Francisco 49ers face off against their division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, in SoFi Stadium (LA) on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan and his 49ers (1-0) are coming off a dominating 30-7 win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh. The Rams (1-0) also won in Week 1 by routing the Seahawks 30-13.

Oddsmakers on most sportsbooks have the 49ers listed as 7.5-point favorites. The over/under is set at 45 points.

Los Angeles Rams vs San Francisco 49ers – game predictions

The public has placed 80.9% of the money on the 49ers to win straight up. They’ve also placed 68.9% of bets on them to cover the spread.

Prediction 1: Christian McCaffrey over 29.5 rec yards @ -110 (1.91)

Since joining the 49ers, the Stanford product has eclipsed 29.5 receiving yards in 7-of-10 games (70%), which includes last week. In Week 1, McCaffrey recorded three catches for 17 yards on five targets.

When donning the red and gold, the running back has never gone back-to-back games under 30 receiving yards, which is a good sign he’ll hit the over on Sunday.

In his 10 games with Shanahan as his coach, McCaffrey is averaging 40.2 receiving yards per game, which is about 11 more than the mark he needs to hit against the Rams.

McCaffrey is also averaging 4.5 receptions per game and 5.9 targets per outing as a 49er. In week one, the Rams allowed five catches to Seattle running backs for 17 yards. McCaffrey should be able to produce much better in a higher octane offense compared to Seattle, who struggled just posting 13 points in the loss.

The Rams’ defense finished 21st in 2022 in terms of passing yards per game, surrendering an average of 226.

Fantasypros’ total projections, which combine six sources such as ESPN, CBS, NFL.com, Numberfire, Fantasy Football Today and their own model, predict McCaffrey to record about 4.5 catches for 40.5 receiving yards.

BetMGM and Bet365 currently have enticing odds of -110 for him to hit the over compared to other sportsbooks, such as Caesars, listing him at -131.

Prediction 2: 49ers to cover -6.5 alt spread @ -125 (1.8)

Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay are good friends and are part of Kyle’s father Mike’s coaching tree. Shanahan has gotten the better of McVay and is 10-3 against the spread when he faces off against him. He’s also 7-0 ATS since 2020.

Last year, the 49ers dominated the Rams in both meetings, beating them 31-14 and 24-9. Brock Purdy is undefeated (7-0) as San Francisco’s starting quarterback in the regular season and has won 85.7% of games (6-of-7) by eight or more points. Purdy has also won five of the last seven games by at least two touchdowns.

The 49ers are a much better overall team, and Matt Stafford will be without his No. 1 weapon, Cooper Kupp. Los Angeles’ week one blowout 30-13 win was a bit of an outlier and has everyone overreacting.

If the game does end up coming down to one score, buying half a point at -6.5 for -125 on Caesars or William Hill ensures you’ll cash your bet. The reason it’s such a good price is that most sportsbooks have the 49ers as 7.5-point favorites, but Caesars has them at seven.
