The Detroit Lions will host the Seattle Seahawks in a battle of NFC foes at Ford Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Lions (1-0) come into the game on a high note after beating the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs 21-20 last week on Thursday night in Arrowhead Stadium.

Seattle (0-1) aims to bounce back after being trounced 30-13 at home by their divisional rival, Los Angeles.

Detroit Lions vs Seattle Seahawks – game predictions

Oddsmakers list Detroit as a 4.5-point favorite and at -225 on the moneyline compared to Seattle (+190).

Prediction 1: Kenneth Walker over 13.5 rush attempts @ -130 (1.77)

Many pundits wondered if 2023 second-round rookie running back Zach Charbonnet would steal the workload from Kenneth Walker this season. In Week 1 against the Rams, Walker played 63% of snaps and had 12 carries for 64 yards compared to just three for Charbonnet (11 yards).

The 22-year-old, Walker, averaged 5.3 yards per carry, including 3.67 yards after contact. Charbonnet averaged just 3.7 yards per carry. The 12 carries Walker received shouldn’t be worrying due to the negative game script with Seattle being blown out 30-13, forcing Pete Carroll to abandon the run.

Last season, Walker became the starter in week six against the Cardinals. After becoming the primary back, he received 14 or more carries in seven of the 10 games (70%) he played in, aside from week 13 when he was forced to leave the game due to injury after three rushes.

Despite being 4.5-point favorites, the Lions should come back down to earth against the Seahawks. Many analysts predict it be a close contest, which promotes a positive game script in terms of rushing attempts for the Michigan State product.

Walker is projected by Fantasy Pros, which combines six models, including ESPN, CBS, NFL.com, Numberfire, Fantasy Football Today and their own, to have 14.9 rushing attempts.

The -130 line on FanDuel for him to hit over 13.5 rushes is appealing, thanks to many sportsbooks listing his total at 14.5.

Prediction 2: DK Metcalf over 4.5 receptions @ -150 (1.67)

I’m not a huge fan of touting picks at this semi-steep price (DraftKings), but the odds are -160 on other books, and some have Metcalf’s over/under set at 5.5 receptions.

Last week, the Chiefs receivers did a good job of getting open against the Lions’ defensive backs but had four drops. Against the Rams, the Seahawks offense had an awful day and only posted 13 points in the loss.

They should rebound this week against the Lions secondary that was third-worst against the pass in 2022 and allowed 226 passing yards last week (24th in the league).

Last campaign (including the playoffs), the former Ole Miss Rebel caught at least five passes in 72.22% of games (13-of-18). He also recorded 100 receptions over that span, which is an average of 5.55 receptions per game.

In the previous outing between these two teams in Week 4 of 2022, Metcalf exploded for 149 on seven receptions. Fantasy Pros’ model projects Metcalf to have 5.3 catches.
