The 2023 WNBA Finals move to the Big Apple with the defending champions from Las Vegas a win away from back-to-back titles. Liberty were beaten badly twice in Nevada but back at home, they will feel they can still turn things around. Here are our New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces predictions and the latest team news.
New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces – game predictions
Contents
It’s a do-or-die scenario for the Liberty from now on with the Aces holding a 2-0 lead in this best of five Finals.
Prediction 1: New York Liberty to Win @ +114 (2.14)
Despite losing twice heavily in Las Vegas Liberty enjoyed very good success against the Aces this season. Prior to the two matches in the current WNBA Finals series Liberty actually won 3 of the last 4 games vs the Aces. This included the final of the Commissioner’s Cup back in August.
Now there is no more room for mistakes so Liberty will be hugely motivated to get back in this final and also avoid a 0-3 sweep.
On all their dominance this season Las Vegas Aces lost 7 matches, with 6 of those defeats suffered on the road.
Prediction 2: Jackie Young under 4.5 assists @ -140 (1.71)
With our next Liberty vs Aces prediction we look at the talented point guard of the Aces Jackie Young. She has been sensational so far in this Finals series with 26 and 24 points in the two matches played. However, she is not known as a passer and she averaged only 3.8 assists per game during the regular season.
Young hasn’t gone above 4 assists in any of the last 4 playoff games either. We don’t think she will be able to go above that mark again now in game 3 of the Finals.
These odds were correct at the time of writing.
Liberty vs Aces preview – can Breanna and Co keep their hopes alive?
Liberty need a reaction and they can rely on the packed arena in what will be their first Finals home match in 21 years.
New York Liberty news, injuries, and starting lineups
New York Liberty trail 0-2 which means that if they want to win their first-ever WNBA title they will have to win 3 consecutive games against the defending champions. Both defeats in Las Vegas were bad and the displays were pretty poor.
Liberty are having problems at both ends of the floor right now. Double-teaming Wilson and Gray leaves them exposed to the scoring of Plum and Young. Both guards scored 20+ points in each of the first 2 games. Liberty need to find a way to slow them down if they are to stand a chance of winning game 3.
Liberty Injury Report:
Han Xu (C) – out
Liberty Starting Lineup:
Courtney Vandersloot, Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, Betnijah Laney, Jonquel Jones
Las Vegas Aces news, injuries, and starting lineups
The Aces are a win away from doing something nobody had done in 21 years – win back-to-back titles. The Aces played an amazing opening quarter in game 2 and this paved their way to an easy 104-76 win.
The Aces are yet to lose a match this postseason and if they win this game 3 they will win the title in an emphatic style.
Things will get much tougher now the Finals move to New York. The Aces also know that their opponents beat them in 3 of the last 6 games between the sides so securing a clean 3-0 triumph will require some monumental effort. Are A’ja Wilson and her teammates ready to do it?
Aces Injury Report:
N/A
Aces Starting Lineup:
Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, A’ja Wilson, Alysha Clark
