Philadelphia 76ers vs Brooklyn Nets – Game Predictions

The 76ers (54-28) are a heavy favorite as the No. 3 seed in this series as they hope to advance past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2001. The Nets (45-37) are in the playoffs for a fifth year in a row, but they look mighty different from last year’s playoff roster.

Prediction 1: Philadelphia 76ers to Cover the Spread (-8.5)

The 76ers have yet to lose to the Nets this year (4-0), but covering an 8.5-point spread in Game 1 is not always easy. Last year, the 76ers started their playoff run with a 20-point home win over Toronto, but they had a 7-point win over Washington the previous year. This season, the 76ers have the second-best spread record (47-34-1, 58%) in the NBA. They cover 57.1% of the time as a home favorite. They also cover 61.9% of the time (second best) on equal rest as both teams last played Sunday against each other with the key starters getting rest. Look for the 76ers to come out strong at home.

Prediction 2: Joel Embiid Over 33.5 Points

Joel Embiid led the NBA with 33.1 points per game as he will likely win his first NBA MVP award. His calf should be well rested after not playing since April 6. Embiid dropped 37 points in his last meeting with the Nets on February 11. The Nets allow the sixth-most points to centers this season. Embiid has gone over 33.5 points in 30-of-66 games this year, but this is a great opportunity for him to come out with a statement game.

76ers vs Nets Preview – Can Brooklyn Keep It Close?

The Nets may need to steal Game 1 if they are to have any chance of an upset in this series. Believe it or not, but the 76ers are only 2-5 in Game 1 of series where Embiid plays the game.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers are in the playoffs for the sixth season in a row, and the team’s 54 wins are its most since the 2000-01 season. That is also the last time the 76ers advanced past the second round when Allen Iverson’s team lost the NBA Finals. Patience is wearing thin for the Embiid era, and they need to have a special run here with scoring champion Embiid likely winning MVP and James Harden leading the league in assists (10.7). But bigger tests lie ahead with Boston and Milwaukee.

Brooklyn Nets

Credit to the Nets (45-37) for moving on from head coach Steve Nash and superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant to still finish as the No. 6 seed. Mikal Bridges has really embraced his role as the top scorer after coming from Phoenix, and he is averaging 26.1 points per game for the Nets. Cameron Johnson and Spencer Dinwiddie also help shape the new-look Nets, who will hope to get their first win of the season against the 76ers in this series. Maybe even multiple wins if they have an upset in them.

76ers vs Nets Head to Head Record In 2023

The 76ers are 4-0 against the Nets this season, though two of those wins were by a combined 7 points, and three of the games were before the All-Star break. The teams just met Sunday in the regular-season finale with the 76ers winning 134-105 but both teams rested primary starters.
