Connecticut Sun vs New York Liberty – game predictions
Contents
Liberty are in their first playoff appearance since 2015. The Sun are making their fifth consecutive semifinal appearance. Liberty swept the regular-season series between the sides. The Sun won game 1 of this semifinal. Liberty responded with a strong win in game 2. Who will take advantage next?
Prediction 1: New York Liberty to win @ -200 (1.50)
Our first Sun vs Liberty prediction backs the visitors to regain control over this series with a much-needed win. Liberty will be high on confidence after winning game 2 to tie the series at 1-1. Also, Liberty won 5 of the 6 H2Hs this season, including both their away games vs the Sun. They needed overtime last time they were in Connecticut but still won 95-90, so we back them to do so again now.
Prediction 2: New York Liberty over 78.5 points @ -200 (1.50)
Liberty scored over 80 points in 5 of the 6 matches vs the Sun this season. They scored 89 and 95 in their 2 wins in Connecticut earlier in the year. In game 2 Liberty dominated and won 84-77. All this makes us believe that Liberty will easily score 79 or more points again in game 3.
These odds were correct at the time of writing.
Sun vs Liberty preview – bright talent vs experience
Fresh from lifting the Commissioners’ Cup in August New York Liberty entered this semifinal full of confidence and hope. They lost their home advantage in this tie though after dropping game 1 and now Liberty travel to the home of the Sun with the contest finely poised at 1-1.
Connecticut Sun news, injuries, and starting lineups
Connecticut Sun could have easily travelled back home holding a 2-0 lead. In game 2 of this series they led 42-38 at halftime, so they were just 2 quarters away from a second win in New York. Unfortunately, the Sun lost their composure in the third quarter of that match and this was enough to see them beaten 77-84.
Hayes was sensational in this last match and she scored 30 points on 12 of 19 shooting to lead all scorers. However, the Sun’s big star Alyssa Thomas was neutralised once more and she finished the game with only 10 points on 2 of 13 shooting. Thomas has struggled vs the Liberty all season and only if she finds a way to get more efficient the Sun could prevail.

New York Liberty news, injuries, and starting lineups
New York Liberty showed great team spirit to level this series at 1-1. Not only New York came from a halftime deficit to win game 2 but all of their 5 starters finished in double digits for points. Laney was the most impressive scorer for Liberty in this game with her 20 points on 5 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Liberty’s bigs played very well too and their dominant display inside the paint showed that this is the way the Sun could be hurt. Stewart finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Jones had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
All 5 starters played 37 minutes and more in this game 2. It seems that this is going to be the way forward with the starters hardly taken off the court.
