At 10 years old, Webanyama joined Nanterre 92, and at 15, he was already a professional. After two years with the senior team of Nanterre, Wembanyama spent one season with Asvel before joining the Metropolitans 92.

Wembanyama was born on January 4, 2004, in Le Chesnay, just outside Paris, to his parents, Felix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau.
Victor’s father, Felix, is a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is 6-foot-6 tall (198cm) and was a track and field athlete competing in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump.
Even though his father wasn’t into basketball, Victor owns a lot of his athleticism to him, not just because of genetics but for the valuable lessons as well.
“Dad gave me the passion for knowing subjects in depth, being a real technician of sports, of whatever I do,” said Wembanyama about his father.
If you are wondering where the love for basketball comes from, it is definitely from his mother. Elodie is 6-foot-3 (191cm) tall, and she played professionally before becoming a youth basketball coach. She was the one who introduced the game to his son, and it was definitely the right decision.
“I had the choice, and I still have the choice to play or not play basketball, but basketball has always been around. I can’t avoid it in my family. My mom is more like me. We really look alike,” says Wembanyama on his mother.

Victor is the second child in his family. He has an older sister named Eve and a young brother named Oscar.
Eva is two years older than Victor, and she is also a basketball player. Eva currently plays for Monaco in the French LF2 league, which is the French second division in women’s basketball. She is 6-foot-1 tall (185cm), and last season averaged 6.4 points and 5.4 points per game.
In 2017, Eva was a part of the French U16 national basketball team that won the European Championship.
Victor’s brother Oscar is 15 years old and is already 6-foot-6 (198cm) tall. Oscar’s first choice was handball, a sport very popular in Europe. However, soon after he tried handball, Oscar decided to follow in the footsteps of his siblings and play basketball. He started with the Nanterre U15 team, and in 2020, he moved to Asvel, a team owned by Tony Parker himself.
