Los Angeles Lakers vs Minnesota Timberwolves – Game Predictions
Contents
The Los Angeles Lakers picked up their game in the final month of the 2022-23 NBA season to climb the standings and get into the Play-In tournament. The Lakers are huge favorites going into the game against the shorthanded Timberwolves and everything but an easy win by them would be a surprise.
Prediction 1: Los Angeles Lakers to Cover the Spread (-8)
If you take a look at the Lakers roster, this team should have already been in the Playoffs but numerous injuries, egos, and personnel changes have put them in this situation. What is crucial for the Lakers is the fact that both LeBron James and Anthony Davis are healthy and ready for this game while the Timberwolves are shorthanded. Their top two centers Rudy Gobert and Naz Reed are out just like Jaden McDaniels. Another crucial factor that goes in the Lakers’ favor is the fact that they landed D’Angelo Russell in a trade who moved from Minnesota to LA right before the NBA trade deadline. The Lakers have a much better team and definitely have the momentum. They will dominate in this game and easily cover the -8-point spread.
Prediction 2: Karl-Anthony Towns Under 23.5 Points
Karl-Anthony Towns will have to step up for the Timberwolves as the only big available for this game. He has a tough regular season behind him as he played only 29 games for the Wolves averaging 20.8 points per game. It is no secret that he is still not 100% ready to give his best and the 23.5-point margin set on him looks a little too high. Not just that it is 3 points more than his season average but also Towns will have to go against Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor. This will probably be a blowout win for the Lakers so Towns may not play his usual minutes as Minnsota’s coach Chris Finch will try to save him for the next game which will be crucial for the Wolves season.
Lakers vs Timberwolves Preview – A chance that the Lakers cannot miss
The Los Angeles Lakers were very close to missing the Playoffs for the second straight year but their performance in the last month of the regular season gives them a chance to save the season. The shorthanded Timberwolves do not look like a threat for the Lakers but LeBron James and co. will have to get the job done.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers spent the majority of the 2022-23 regular season among the bottom five teams in the Western Conference. With Anthony Davis missing significant time and LeBron James going down with a foot injury in March, things didn’t look any promising for the Lakers. Anyway, they managed to regroup when it counts the most winning 18 of the last 26 regular season games, and are now in a situation to advance to the Playoffs and meet the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening Playoff round.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves won the hearts of many NBA fans by the way they played most of the season and how they handled the injuries of crucial players. They landed veteran Mike Conler Jr. before the trade deadline and looked like a real Playoff contender. Unfortunately for them, things went down in the last game of the regular season when Rudy Gobert punched his teammate Kyle Anderson and got suspended for this game. The Wolves traded 7 players to Utah in the off-season to get Gobert and the three-time defensive player of the year will not be available for the crucial game. To make things even worse, his backup Naz Reed is also injured and wingman Jaden McDaniels broke his hand punching a wall after the last game.
Lakers vs Timberwolves Head to Head Record In 2023
The Timberwolves won the regular season series against the Lakers by 2-1. The Wolves won the first two games with almost the same score (111-102 and 110-102) while the Lakers won the last game, 123-111 on March 31st.
