Is Ja Morant Playing Tonight in Game 3 vs Lakers?

The Memphis Grizzlies tied the series against the Los Angeles Lakers at one game apiece with a 103-93 win in Game 2. Their best player Ja Morant sat that one out after he suffered a hand injury in the opening game of the series that the Grizzlies lost 128-112. Now the series moves to LA for Game 3 and the same question is still there, is Ja Morant playing tonight?

Tyus Jones had a good game as a replacement for Morant, scoring 10 points and 8 assists, but things will get much more difficult if Morant is not ready to play in Los Angeles. Team effort is what lifted the Grizzlies over the Lakers in Game 2 and they showed character avoiding going down 2-0 in the series.

What’s Morant’s Injury Status Ahead of Game 2 of the Series?

ja Morant was listed as questionable last night, a status that today was changed to day to day. It is obvious that it will be a game time decision that will give the answer to the question is Morant still injured. It will not be a unfamiliar scenario for the rest of the Grizzlies team if their starting point guard is out. He missed 20 games in the regular season with injuries and a suspension, so they definitely learnt how to play without him. Jaren Jackson Jr., who recently won the Defensive Player of the Year Award has taken over the leading role and he did a great job against Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor.

Can the Grizzlies Manage Without Morant?

The answer is simple – they will have no choice but to go against the Lakers without their best player. Morant averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game and no other player can really replace those numbers. The good thing about the Grizzlies is that they are playing a good team basketball and head coach Taylor Jenkins can adapt the team when Morant is unavailable. What’s not going in their favor is the fact, that Morant is not the only Grizzlies player on the injury list. Their starting center Steven Adams has been out for months now with a knee sprain, just like Jake LaRavia who is out with calf soreness and Brandon Clarke who has an Achilles tear. However, the Grizzlies had a winning record without Morant in the team and they will be competitive tonight against Lakers even if their star player is inactive.
