Paul Geroge has been leading the Los Angeles Clippers in scoring this season but it was cut short with a knee injury. This wasn’t the first time for the forward to just be unlucky and end his season too early. The Clippers are going against the Phoenix Suns in Game 5 of the Western Conference first Playoff round. Things do not look promising at all with the Phoenix Suns being 3-1 up and playing the next one at home in Arizona.
The Clippers managed to steal the opening game of the series on the road and threaten to make an upset in the opening Playoff round. However, the Suns picked up their game and took advantage not just from George’s absence, but from Kawhi Leonard’s as well since he missed the last two games for the Clippers.
What’s George’s Injury Status Ahead of Game 5 of the Series?
The Clippers hoped that George will recover just in time for the Playoffs, but the seriousness of the injury demands longer break. He is definitely out for this series and as things are evolving, for the entire season, so there is not really a question is George playing tonight. George has been out since March 22, with a right knee injury. As George went up for a rebound, in the Clippers game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, his right knee seemed to collide with Thunder guard Luguentz Dort’s knee, before landing awkwardly. George could barely stand after the fall and left the court immediately. It was obvious that he will miss some time, but the Clippers hoped that he will be back for the Playoffs. There has been a major improvement with his injury, but the team officials said that he is definitely out for the series. The Clippers have slim chances to turn things around against the Suns, so the season for them will probably be over tonight.
How important is George for the Clippers?
Paul George has been the leader of the Clippers since he joined the team in 2019. He averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game on 45.7% shooting from the field. He was the most consistent player on the team most of the season and the Clippers could not find a way to replace him. Veteran Eric Gordon, who returned to the Clippers via trade from the Houston Rockets during the season, is starting in George’s place. Gordon and former MVP Russell Westbrook are the Clippers backcourt with George being out.
