While a common theme for these 2023 NBA playoffs, injuries should not be the story Saturday when the Miami Heat and New York Knicks meet in Game 3 to break a 1-1 tie. Jimmy Butler and Julius Randle should both be ready to go for their teams after each missed one of the first two games.
These odds from William Hill were correct at the time of writing.
Miami Heat vs New York Knicks – Game Predictions
Contents
In Game 3, Miami is a 4-point home favorite with a total of 209.5 points.
Prediction 1: Miami Heat to Cover the Spread (-4)
Miami has been the best spread bet in the NBA this postseason with a 6-1 ATS record. Even without Jimmy Butler in Game 2, the Heat led in the fourth quarter before finishing poorly in a close loss. We are going against the data with this pick as the Heat were just 12-24-2 ATS (33.3%) as a home favorite this year, the second-worst record in the NBA. But little about the Heat from the regular season has been translated to the postseason. The Knicks also got 16 threes from just four players in Game 2, so shooting regression could hit hard on the road while the Heat are getting their best player back.
Prediction 2: Heat Team Total Over 106.5 Points
In the regular season, Miami averaged 109.5 points per game, the lowest in the NBA. But the Heat scored at least 119 points in every game against Milwaukee in the first round, a historic performance against a No. 1 seed. Miami has not had as much success against the Knicks so far, but the Heat still scored 108 and 105 points, so they have been right in the ballpark of this number. They also scored 120 and 127 points against the Knicks at home in the regular season. With Butler back as arguably the most dangerous scorer in these playoffs, look for Miami to exceed 106.5 points again in this one.
Heat vs Knicks Preview – Who Will Close?
So far, both games have been fairly close and low scoring with both teams having a shot to take the win in the fourth quarter. It is no surprise we are tied, but a big Game 3 will give one of these teams the upper hand.
Miami Heat News, Injuries, and Starting Lineups
All eyes are on the Jimmy Butler injury situation, but reports are optimistic that he will return to play in this game. He was initially hobbled late in Game 1, missed Game 2, and has been listed as questionable for Game 3. The Heat remain without Tyler Herro, who broke multiple fingers against Milwaukee, and Victor Oladipo also was lost to injury.
Miami Heat Injury Report:
- Jimmy Butler (ankle) is questionable
- Tyler Herro (hand) is out
- Victor Oladipo (knee) is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon
Miami Heat Starting Lineup:
Jimmy Butler, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, Kevin Love, and Bam Adebayo.
New York Knicks News, Injuries, and Starting Lineups
The Knicks are relatively healthy and will be looking for more consistency from their stars. They had three 20-point scorers in Game 2 with the return of Randle. But Jalen Brunson in particular needs to be more consistent after shooting 0-for-7 from 3 in Game 1 and 6-for-10 in Game 2. Brunson has also shot under 46% in all three road games this postseason while going above that rate in all four home games.
New York Knicks Injury Report:
- Jericho Sims (shoulder) is out for the season
- Isaiah Roby (ankle) is out for the season
New York Knicks Starting Lineup:
Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson.
Heat vs Knicks Head to Head Record In 2023
