The NBA is still in shock after Damian Lillard’s trade to the Milwaukee Bucks, and we have another All-Star guard on the move. It seems like the Bucks-Blazers trade was just the beginning of a chain of events that brought many changes to the rosters of some of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.

In less than 48 hours after Jrue Holiday was traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers, the 2021 NBA champion is on the move again. It was obvious that the Blazers do not need another veteran point guard after they drafted Scoot Henderson this summer, and they quickly shipped Holiday to the Boston Celtics.
The 17-time NBA champions will send center Robert Williams III, last season’s Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon, the 2024 Golden State Warriors first round pick and the 2029 unprotected Celtics pick to Portland.
How did Holiday end in Boston?
Jrue Holiday spent the last three season with the Milwaukee Bucks. After helping the team winning the NBA championship in 2021, he was pretty sure that he will finish his career in Milwaukee.
However, things did not go as planned, and Holiday was the center piece of the Bucks package that was sent to Portland in exchange for Damian Lillard.
Holiday faced the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Playoffs and was one of the best players for the Bucks who won the series in seven games. The Celtics were close to winning the championship in the last two seasons and decided to make some changes in the hope of moving one step further.
First, they traded for Kristaps Porzingis sending Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies and then they landed Holiday. Holiday is the only true point guard on the Celtics roster and he will take over the starting spot and play with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in the Celtics backcourt.
What does Holiday bring to the table?
Holiday has been in the league for 14 seasons and he has plenty of top level basketball left in the tank given the fact that he is 32 years old. Holiday is a perfect for the Celtics as he is a defensive specialist and can also be very productive on the offensive end.
The Celtics do not need of him to take over games since they have a couple of elite scorers. Holiday will be more of a defensive guy who can take care of the ball and make the right decisions for the young Celtics squad.
Jrue Holiday career recap
Holiday came into the league as the 17th pick on the 2009 NBA Draft selected by the Philadelphia 76ers. In his fourth year in the league, Holiday made his first All-Star appearance.
After four seasons in Philly, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013. He had his best season in the Big Easy, averaging 21.2 points and 7.7 assists in the 2018-19 season.
After seven years with the Pels, Holiday moved to Milwaukee in 2021. He won the NBA Teammate of the Year award three times from 2020 to 2023.
