What really happened to Bronny?

Bronny James was participating in a practice with the USC Trojans on Monday when he collapsed on the court. An ambulance was called, and he was treated on the spot before being taken to the hospital. Bronny’s condition was pretty serious as the 18-year-old was taken to the intensive care unit.

The incident was not reported immediately but on Tuesday the family spokesperson came out with a statement.

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update media when there is more information,” a James family spokesperson said in a statement.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

This is the second time this year a famous athlete to suffer a cardiac arrest during athletic activities. The Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin had a similar incident in front of the entire sports world as he collapsed on the field when the Bills were playing the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2.

Hamlin fully recovered and went to Twitter to show his support for Bronny.

What Does This Mean For Bronny Career?

Cardiac arrests are conditions that can put in jeopardy not just the career but the life of athletes. There have been numerous players having heart conditions but still being able to return to the court such as Jeff Green who won the NBA championship last season with the Denver Nuggets, or Shaquille O’Neal’s son, Shareef who is playing for the NBA G League Ignite after having an open heart surgery when he was around Bronny’s age.

Bronny is about to enter his freshman season with the Trojans after he decided to go to school in Los Angeles. He was ranked No. 20 in the ESPN rankings in the 2023 class and was sixth among the point guards.

It is still early to predict whether Bronny will start the season since many medical examinations will follow after what happened on Monday. LeBron James has not addressed the media after the incident and is expected to do so in the following days. It is still unclear if this would affect his career and the upcoming season. James has stated many times that his main goal is to play together with his son in the NBA.
