Valencia vs Monaco – game predictions

Here are our Valencia vs Monaco predictions. You can find more EuroLeague predictions here.

Prediction 1: Mike James over 4.5 assists @ 3/4 (1.75)

Monaco’s veteran point guard Mike James is entering his tenth year in the EuroLeague. He’s averaged exactly 4.5 assists per game in the previous 9 seasons. However, in his 2 years with Monaco, he averaged 6.3 and 5.4 assists per game.

So early in the season, Kemba Walker will be under restricted minutes so James shouldn’t see his numbers being impacted by the new arrival. That’s why we back him to produce at least 5 dimes in game 1.

Prediction 2: Monaco over 84.5 points @ 10/11 (1.91)

Our second prediction backs Monaco to score at least 85 points. The French fell just short in their only previous visit to Valencia when they recorded 84 points. They scored 90 in the return fixture though.

Since those games Monaco added volume scorers to their ranks, Kemba Walker the most famous of the lot, and they scored 85 or more points in 5 of their last 7 matches. This is enough for us to back them to do so again.

These odds were correct at the time of writing.

Valencia vs Monaco preview – is Kemba ready to dazzle in Europe?

Valencia will be eager to improve on their 15-19 record from last season. Monaco also target a better season and both teams will be eager to make a winning start.

Valencia news, injuries, and starting lineups

Valencia’s maiden season in the EuroLeague was a decent one. Now an improvement is expected and the Spaniards rely heavily on their trio of Americans in the backcourt to deliver the goods. The rookie Robertson is an interesting addition to the squad after having an impressive season with Obradoiro in the Spanish league.

Another American will be starting now at centre (Brandon Davies) now the team’s captain and main centre for the last 10 years Bojan Dubljevic no longer being in the team.

Valencia have a decent roster but they lack depth and experience, which in the EuroLeague usually proves costly.

Monaco news, injuries, and starting lineups

Monaco gave coach Sasa Obradovic the funds to add the 4-time NBA All-Star Kemba Walker to the already impressive backcourt and the French side could be a major factor in the EuroLeague this season. One of Mike James, Elie Okobo, and Jordan Loyd will have to be starting on the bench now Kemba is in the mix, but between them, all 4 are expected to play roughly the same minutes.

Power forward Petr Cornelie is another new signing and he is fresh from lifting the trophy last season with Real. Monaco also have good size with Donatas Motiejunas the starting centre, but Hall and Jaiteh provide great depth.
