Seeing what Luka Doncic has done in his basketball career by the age of 24 looks very impressive. He was named to the All-NBA First Team in each of the last four seasons. Last year with the Dallas Mavericks, the Slovenian point guard averaged 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8 assists per game, and he is already mentioned as one of the best international players who have ever played in the NBA. Luka Doncic is undoubtedly the best NBA player that will play at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He has never missed an opportunity to represent Slovenia on the international stage and he will have a chance to make his debut in such tournament.

A fact that many fans do not know is that Doncic could actually choose between three national teams. His father Sasa Doncic is Serbian, his mother Mirjam Poterbin is Slovenian, and Doncic was also offered to play for Spain since he moved there at a very young age. He choose to play for Slovenia since he was born there and considered it his native land.

Doncic made his debut on the major events at the 2017 EuroBasket. He had a solid contribution on the team who was led by Goran Dragic and won their first ever basketball gold medal. Despite being European champion, Slovenia failed to qualify for the 2019 FIBA World Championship but did so for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. They finished fourth, and Doncic was named the best player of the tournament. In his first game at the Olympics, Doncic scored 48 points in a in a 118–100 win over Argentina, tying the second-most points in a single game at the Olympics.
