Jonny Clayton vs Michael van Gerwen Prediction and Odds – Premier League Darts Night 9

Jonny Clayton has found the going tough the last few weeks, having made a quarter-final exit in the last three rounds of action. The Premier League Darts schedule doesn’t ease up on him either as he takes on Michael van Gerwen in his opener on Night 9.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Jonny Clayton vs Michael van Gerwen – Match Predictions

This is the third match of Night 9 from Berlin, and the bookmakers have this down as likely being a one-sided affair. MVG leads the way at the top of the Premier League tree comfortably and is the favourite to progress. The winner of this match will face either the in-form Gerwyn Price or Peter Wright in the semi-finals. We dive into this match with our darts predictions.

Prediction 1: Michael van Gerwen -2.5 handicap

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players in this season’s Premier League Darts. Van Gerwen won the first three, covering a handicap of -2.5 in each of those wins. So we simply have to go that route again for this quarter-final match on Night 9.

Prediction 2: Van Gerwen Most 180s

Van Gerwen has lost just one quarter-final match this season in the Darts Premier League. Clayton has suffered five such losses, including one on each of the last three Nights of action. So there’s a clear separation between the two players. The problem is finding some value odds to put things together for darts betting. For that, we’ll ease towards MVG topping the 180s and he’s nailed more than twice as many this season than Clayton has.

Jonny Clayton and Michael van Gerwen Latest Form and Performances

We can look a little deeper into form next by looking at the recent results the two players have put together before they square off in Berlin on Night 9.

Can The Ferret End Losing Streak?

Jonny Clayton is on a four-match losing streak in the Premier League at the moment. After losing the Night 5 Final, it’s been early exits for The Ferret in each of the last three rounds. He sits on a W4 L8 match record in this season’s campaign and is struggling. Only Peter Wright has a worse leg difference and fewer maximums than Clayton.

Demo Job Coming Up For Mighty Mike?

Michael van Gerwen is seven points clear of Gerwyn Price at the top of the table at the moment. He wasn’t quite his usual consistent high-scoring self last week, but he still made the final where he lost to Gerwyn Price. MVG is W15 L5 this season in the league and is the only player to have reached 50 180s.

Jonny Clayton vs Michael van Gerwen Head to Head

It’s been three comfortable wins for Michael van Gerwen over Jonny Clayton from three league meetings this season. Clayton failed to get closer than three legs in any of those defeats. The tables are turning it seems, as in last year’s Premier League, Clayton won three in a row at one point against MVG.
