It is all set for the 2023 NBA Finals. The Denver Nuggets will have a chance to play for the championship for the first time in franchise history while the Miami Heat are here for the 7th time in the last 17 seasons.
Going into the finals series, the Denver Nuggets are major favorites. They finished the regular season on top of the Western Conference with a 53-29 record. The Nuggets started with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening playoff round and then eliminated the Phoenix Suns in six games. The Nuggets showed their real power in the Western Conference Finals sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is averaging a triple-double in 15 Playoff games so far. The Serbian has 29.9 points, 13.3 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game. The two-time MVP award winner has been consistent in recent years but what makes the Nuggets a real contender is the support Jokic has. Jamal Murray is averaging 27.7 points and 6.1 assists per game while Aaron Gordon has 13 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Miami Heat had a difficult road to the NBA Finals. They had to go through the Play-In tournament to advance to the Playoffs. The Heat lost the first game to the Atlanta Hawks and then defeated the Chicago Bulls in the next one to take the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. Miami stunned the Milwaukee Bucks, winning in five games in the opening round, and then took care of business against the New York Knicks in six games. The real challenge was in the conference finals where they faced the Boston Celtics. The Heat took a 3-0 lead in the series but the Celtics managed to win the next three. Boston had a chance to become the first team in NBA history to win a Playoff series after being down by 3-0 but the Heat dominated Game 7 on the road and advanced to their second NBA Finals in four years.
