The Spurs have been respectable in their two games so far, losing 126-119 to a Luka Doncic triple-double against the Mavericks. They closed well against Houston in overtime to win 126-122 on Friday night as Wembanyama got help from his other teammates. The Clippers have been hot offensively (No. 2 in Offensive Rating) but rank No. 26 in Defensive Rating for their first two games. The Clippers blew out the Spurs in both home games last season, but we’ll trust this new-look team with Wembanyama to keep it close as the Clippers are still coming together with their stars healthy.

Was Game 2 a sign of things to come for Wembanyama? Sportsbooks continue to set his rebounds low, but after having 5 rebounds in a foul-plagued debut, he had 12 rebounds in 31 minutes on Friday night for his first double-double in the NBA. He had 5 offensive boards alone as that figures to be an advantage his 7’4” height should bring to this team. Even on a missed free throw he could be the ultimate weapon for a rebound and another possession. Until we see evidence to the contrary, or until the oddsmaker adjust the lines, we’ll continue taking the over for Wemby’s rebounds.

Clippers look to rebound from bad loss

Some losses look worse than others. The Jazz were pounded on Saturday night by Phoenix, but they hung in there against the Clippers on Friday and won the game despite the Clippers shooting 53.2% from the field compared to 43.8% for Utah. That differential of nearly 10 percentage points is usually always a win in the NBA, but Kawhi Leonard came up short on a go-ahead basket in the final seconds, then Russell Westbrook threw up an air ball to end the game.
