The 2023 Women’s World Cup is set to begin in just over a week’s time and this year’s edition of the tournament is one of the most eagerly anticipated in history after the Lionesses’ success last summer at the European Championships.

The England squad has been ready for some time now after Sarina Wiegman announced her 23-player squad way back at the end of May. Within her squad, there are plenty of goalscoring options however they are without the Euro 2022 golden boot winner, Beth Mead, who has been ruled out of the tournament with injury.

Although Mead will be a big miss at the tournament, there are plenty of players from all nations who will have their eyes on the golden boot prize. Here are the latest odds on who will score the most goals at the tournament.

Women’s World Cup golden boot latest odds

Alex Morgan – 9/2

Unsurprisingly, Alex Morgan is the firm favourite to score the most goals at the Women’s World Cup this summer. The American scored six goals at the 2019 event which tied her with her teammate, Megan Rapinoe, and England striker, Ellen White. This time around, Morgan will be looking to win the golden boot outright and she has every chance playing for the formidable USA.

Morgan has scored 121 goals for her country in over 200 caps and she thrives on the big occasion. Although she wasn’t at her prolific best for San Diego Wave last season, there is a feeling that she has been saving herself for this tournament given that it may well be her last.

Morgan will look to get off to a quick start at the tournament when the USA take on Vietnam in their opening group game. Vietnam are ranked 32 places below the USA in the world rankings and many people are predicting a heavy victory for Vlatko Andonovski’s side.

Sophia Smith – 9/1

Sophia Smith is widely regarded as the heir to the Morgan and Rapinoe throne in the United States Women’s Soccer Team and for good reason, too. At the age of 22, Smith has her entire career in front of her but she has already shown how prolific a goalscorer she is for Portland Thorns.

Over the past two seasons, Smtih has scored 25 goals in 28 games in the National Women’s Soccer League, helping her team to win the Championship in 2022. Smith is expected to partner Morgan up front for the USA this summer and should she get a couple of goals in the opening game against Vietnam, then this price of 9/1 will tumble very quickly.

Rachel Daly – 10/1

With Beth Mead out of action, England Women will be looking to the likes of Rachel Daly and Alessia Russo to get them goals this summer as they go searching for a European Championship and World Cup double. Daly is expected to be the focal point of the England lineup at the World Cup after a stellar season for Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League.

The 31-year-old was the star of the show for Villa all season and scored 22 goals in 22 appearances. Her goals earned her the golden boot in the Super League and she has never been in better form than she is right now. If she can take her club form into the World Cup then perhaps another golden boot award is on the horizon.

Daly and England will start their World Cup campaign against Haiti, which represents a golden opportunity for the forwards to get some goals under their belts immediately.

Jennifer Hermoso – 11/1

When it comes to golden boots, it would be criminal to rule out Barcelona legend, Jennifer Hermoso. At the age of 33, Hermoso has enjoyed an illustrious career in Spain and has won a record five golden boots in Liga F. Last summer, Hermoso moved to Mexican side CF Pachuca but she is still expected to be a considerable threat this summer for Spain.

She is the national team’s record goalscorer and has a great relationship with the best player in the world – Alexia Putellas – who will be looking to combine with Hermoso in Australia and New Zealand. In what could be her final World Cup, Hermoso will be in a determined mood and she may well turn out to be a great pick for the golden boot.

Sam Kerr – 12/1

Australian forward, Sam Kerr, is another player who could threaten the golden boot this summer. Kerr has played for Chelsea since 2020 and has been one of their key players ever since. The 29-year-old has been a big reason why Chelsea have dominated English football over the past couple of years with the Australian winning two golden boot awards in her three seasons with the club.

Last season, Kerr scored 12 league goals for Chelsea which represented something of a dip in form for the striker. However, considering she is still only 29, there is a firm belief that she will overcome this blip and return to top form in the near future. What better place to do this than at a World Cup?
