Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has been linked with a long list of clubs in recent months. But it seems that Premier League side Arsenal may be leading the race for his signature.
The Serbian has been in astonishing form for some time now. He sits joint-top of the Serie A goalscoring charts for the current campaign. Both he and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile boast 17 goals so far.
Both will have an eye on the Golden Boot come the end of the season. But Vlahovic already boasts an envious record when it comes to finding the back of the net. The 21-year-old hit 33 Serie A goals in 2021, equalling Cristian Ronaldo’s record for most goals scored in the league in a single calendar year.

Such form has caused top European clubs to stand up and take notice. But Football.London reports that Arsenal have already presented an offer to Fiorentina. And the Gunners are perhaps ahead of their rivals in this pursuit.
That is because the Serie A side want to secure the services of Lucas Torreira on a permanent basis. The midfielder is currently on loan from the north London outfit. He could be used by Mikel Arteta in any deal for striker Vlahovic.
Vlahovic the perfect fit for Arsenal?
The Gunners are in desperate need of a talented forward. Emile Smith Rowe is their top scorer in the league this season with eight. Bukayo Saka is a close second with six. Arsenal as a whole have managed just 33 goals from their 20 matches.
More worrying perhaps is the situation involving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker was recently dropped as the club’s captain for disciplinary issues. And yet another issue comes in the form of Alexandre Lacazette. His contract at the club ends this summer.
What Arsenal need is a goalscorer. But they also need someone who can link up with the midfielders and wingers, allowing Arteta to continue a playing style that was first conjured up by Gunners legend Arsene Wenger.
A deadly finisher and target man, Vlahovic could well be that player the club have been so desperately needing. Despite his tall stature, he has quick feet and is definitely fast enough on the counter.
The Serbian is also more than capable of handling himself when it comes to the physicality of the Premier League. It’s an area that talented players have often failed to master.
Arteta not afraid to spend big
If one thing is certain, it is that Arteta is not afraid of spending money when it comes to strengthening his squad. The boss has overseen the incomings of Thomas Partey, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White among others.
Arsenal as a club meanwhile have also spent big in the past. And if examined more closely, the majority of the big-money transfers have involved attacking talents. Winger Nicolas Pepe remains their record signing. And Aubameyang and Lacazette are in their top five.
Could Vlahovic be the latest to join the list? He could find himself as the club’s record signing should he make the move this month.
Another list he could join is that of Arsenal’s legendary strikers. On current form, the young Serbian is well on his way to emulating the heroics of a handful of Gunners icons. Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Robin van Persie all come to mind.
