Wenger Takes Aim at Tottenham’s Culture, Recommending Kane Leaves on a Free Transfer

Tottenham captain and youth academy graduate, Harry Kane has been linked with a summer move away from North London. Manchester United are in hot pursuit of the prolific striker and want him to be part of their roster in the coming campaign.

While transfer speculation around Kane gains momentum, the record England goalscorer has hinted at a possible stay with Spurs. The 29-year-old wants to continue in their ranks and has European silverware in his crosshairs.

Kane should leave on a free

Arsenal legend, Arsene Wenger, has backed Kane’s ambitions. The tactician advised him to forego £100 million move away from Spurs this summer and assess his options in a year’s time.

The Walthamstow native’s move away from North London will not be derived by money but it will pay a part. Following Wenger’s plan, Kane not only give’s Tottenham one last chance but can cash in on his services by being a master of his own destiny.

“If you are his agent, Harry Kane has one year to go, in one year he is completely free, what do you tell him?” Wenger remarked. “Give your club a last chance and then you go.

“It’s not about money, but, in the end, it’s always about money,” the 73-year-old said. “He will not go for less than £ 80 million. You don’t find strikers of that quality.”

Lack of desire in Spurs’ squad

After leading Spurs to a top-four position, Antonio Conte drove himself into exile and an eventual ousting. The Italian questioned the desire of his players to win as he ranted about their ambitions.

Tottenham’s season has been derailed since. They have gone from top four to struggling to keep a European slot. Kane has chosen his words carefully in this matter but admitted he plans on having conversations with the club hierarchy about their culture.

Wenger has had a front-row seat of Tottenham’s affairs and chimed in about it. He questioned the players’ resolve around Kane and believes it is a cultural issue with them. They have struggled to live up to the standards, which has hampered their progression into being serial silverware challengers.

“Translated it means that not everybody gives the maximum to perform during training to be good enough in the game,” Wenger added. “Is it down the character of the players or is it down to the whole atmosphere inside the training ground or the coaches? I don’t know.

“You need to live every day with players to know what’s really going on, and what works and what doesn’t work,” the former Arsenal and Monaco manager shared. “You have to create a culture inside the club that allows the players to perform.

“You need clear rules for everybody to see what you tolerate and what you don’t tolerate. When you talk about values, most of the time it is [about] what is not tolerated.

“Players like Harry Kane have high standards. He is now frustrated because for years the team looked on the way up. Since two or three years they look to have failed again.”
