Manchester United and Liverpool are in a battle for the signature of Porto star Luis Diaz, according to Fichajes.
The winger has been in stunning form this season for the Portuguese side. He has 11 goals and three assists in 14 Primeira Liga matches. He’s also made quite an impression in Europe. The 24-year-old netted twice for his side in Group B of the Champions League. Both of those strikes came against AC Milan.
And while Porto did not progress to the knockout stages, the campaign was a successful one for Diaz. He has reportedly caught the eye of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. The Reds were in the same group as Porto, with the winger playing both matches. Despite the Merseyside outfit winning 5-1 and 2-0, Diaz impressed those in the opposition dugout.
One last major coup for Michael Edwards?

Liverpool’s potential transfer dealings have already taken a hit, with sporting director Michael Edwards leaving at the end of the season.
He is responsible for an astonishing list of signings during his time at the club. That includes names such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Andy Robertson. Fabinho, Thiago and Diogo Jota are also on the list.
Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping that Edwards can pull off one last major transfer to mark his farewell in style.
A move for Diaz would also continue the South American trend at Anfield. The Colombian would join Brazilian trio Roberto Firmino, Alisson and Fabinho at the club. Past stars from the continent include Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
Man Utd in need of attacking reinforcements?
Man Utd have undoubtedly improved their attacking options in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. The former has reminded everyone of just how special he is in front of goal this season. And the latter has finally stepped up to the mark with some important strikes in recent weeks.
But at 36, Ronaldo may not be able to continue such fine form all season. Moreover, Marcus Rashford has struggled massively with injuries in recent months. And perhaps most significantly of all, Anthony Martial looks set to be on his way out in the very near future.
Luis Diaz starring for club and country
It’s been a phenomenal rise for the 24-year-old in recent years. He made the switch from Colombian side Junior to Portuguese giants Porto in 2019 and simply hasn’t looked back.
Diaz has already clinched a Primeira Liga title with Porto. But perhaps more impressive is his individual achievements at international level. He shared the Golden Boot with Lionel Messi with four goals each at the 2021 Copa America, and was also named in the Team of the Tournament alongside the Argentinian and Brazil star Neymar.
He is direct, with superb ball control and dribbling skills. His pace and flair would certainly excite the fans at Old Trafford and Anfield. Staying out wide to receive, Diaz is constantly cutting in and unleashing fierce strikes on his favoured right foot. The versatile attacker can also play left midfield in a 4-4-2 formation, along with his usual spot in left-wing in a 4-3-3.
There is, however, worrying news for the English clubs showing interest. Both Bayern Munich and Juventus are also eyeing his signature.
