Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp predicts current star to be an ‘all-time great’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Mohamed Salah’s achievements this season are not overlooked by anyone involved with the club, with the winger set to become an “all-time great” when he retires.

The Egyptian netted his 30th goal of the season in the 1-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield last weekend.

Salah now boasts an astonishing 186 goals from his 302 Liverpool appearances, with the attacker also registering 74 assists in that time.

Liverpool star will be ‘all-time great’

The winger has hit 19 Premier League goals this season, adding eight in the Champions League and one in each of the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.

It’s been another stunning campaign for the Liverpool star, in what has been an underwhelming campaign from the Reds in general.

But they are now getting back to their best, with Salah’s heroics playing a key part, with the star winger scoring in three successive matches, much to the delight of his manager.

When asked if Salah’s achievements this season could be overlooked, Klopp told reporters, as quoted by the official Liverpool website: “No, not from us, not from the Liverpool supporters, maybe from you. I don’t know.

“This question is now not the first time I hear it. Not from us – I said it a lot of times, he will be an all-time great after he finishes his career, but now he is still in his career and if you see Mo every day there is still a really good few years in his legs and in his body so the numbers will even improve and that’s absolutely great.

“No, we don’t overlook it but I can imagine with the question asked that often that you might be guilty to overlook it, I don’t know.”

Liverpool bang in form

As mentioned, it has been a frustrating season in general for Klopp’s men, who have not been at their best in the Premier League, as well as being knocked out in the various cup competitions far too early for their liking.

However, there is still hope that the season can end on a high note, with a top four finish a possibility thanks to a superb recent run of form.

Liverpool have now won their last six league matches, a run that sees them sit just a point behind Manchester United in the table. The Red Devils do have a game in hand, but anything could happen with the two fierce rivals in these closing stages.

Discussing what has sparked Liverpool’s turnaround in form, Klopp said: “We spoke about that quite frequently. We tried to give ourselves the chance for a fresh start with a lot of different things, different football things.

“We had kind of a new start, we agreed on that in the week, I can’t remember which week it was exactly but we had eight or nine days for training between the games and we wanted to use that time to start the new season already, not knowing where it would lead us to but just didn’t want to waste more time.

“And it was a breath of fresh air for all of us, not only the players but for the coaches as well, and since then things changed.”
