Liverpool: 5 centre midfielders that Jurgen Klopp could target in summer transfer window

Liverpool: 5 centre midfielders that Jurgen Klopp could target in summer transfer window

Liverpool are in major need of some reinforcements this summer, with the Reds enduring a tricky campaign in all competitions under Jurgen Klopp.

The manager, like all of the fans watching on, has been perplexed at the club’s struggles this season, particularly given how successful the Reds were last time out.

But injuries and simply a lack of form from several key players have led to a disappointing campaign all round for Liverpool, although there does remain hope that the Reds can still clinch a Champions League spot.

That would be a massive boost for the club, namely because they will want to be playing in Europe’s premier competition once again, but also because it would help them to be able to bring in some much-needed world-class talent.

And midfield is definitely the main area in which Liverpool need to strengthen, with Klopp set to lose the likes of Naby Keita and James Milner this summer.

5 midfielders Liverpool could target

James Ward-Prowse

James Ward-Prowse has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for some time now, but his time in the competition is essentially coming to an end given Southampton’s very worrying position in the table.

But Liverpool could make sure the 28-year-old stays where he belongs by offering him a new challenge at Anfield, one which he would no doubt succeed in. His energy and passing are two much-needed characteristics at Liverpool, while his set-piece ability speaks for itself.

Alexis Mac Allister

At just 24, Brighton ace Alexis Mac Allister could become a mainstay in the Liverpool midfield for many years to come.

The 2022 World Cup winner has strongly been linked with a move to Anfield having enjoyed a superb campaign for the Seagulls, with 12 goals to his name in all competitions.

Romeo Lavia

Like Ward-Prowse, Romeo Lavia is also set to be relegated from the Premier League with Southampton, but his displays this season have ensured that he will make an immediate return to the top flight at a different club next time out.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 19-year-old, while Manchester City could look to bring him back to the Etihad having only just sold him to the Saints, but Klopp could be smart and swoop in with an offer that Lavia couldn’t say no to.

Ryan Gravenberch

A hugely talented midfielder capable of playing centrally or slightly deeper in defensive midfield, Ryan Gravenberch first burst onto the scene as one of many prodigious Ajax stars a handful of years ago.

Now at Bayern Munich, the 20-year-old is finding it difficult to establish himself as a regular in the club’s midfield, something that definitely wouldn’t be an issue if he made a summer switch to Liverpool.

Liverpool

Conor Gallagher

Another player heavily linked with a summer move, Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has enjoyed a fine individual campaign amid the club’s overall struggles.

And Liverpool could definitely capitalise on both a poor season from the Blues and indeed their squad size, which is currently far too big and therefore will result in a handful of players leaving Stamford Bridge in the near future.
