England vs Italy Euro 2024 qualifier Team news
England will be expected to make wholesale changes to the team that started in their 1-0 friendly win over Australia on Friday night, as Gareth Southgate looks to put his strongest XI out knowing that a win ensures qualification for Euro 2024 in first place in the group.
Likewise, Italy will be expected to make changes from the side that faced Malta, as many of the big guns return having had to settle for a place on the bench on Saturday. Sandro Tonali, Nicolo Zaniolo and Nicolo Fagioli have been left out of the squad due to an ongoing betting investigation.
Italy predicted lineup – 4-3-3
Donnarumma – Di Lorenzo, Scalvini, Acerbi, Udogie – Cristante, Frattesi, Barella – Berardi, Scamacca, El Shaarawy
Italy key players – Our top three
Domenico Berardi – A wing wizard
Berardi scored a brace in Italy’s 4-0 win over Malta, and his pace and trickery down the right-wing will scare England, especially considering they do not have a natural left-back in the squad to put up against him.
At club level, he is often at the centre of Sassuolo’s attacking play, and has five goals and one assist in the Serie A already this season.
Destiny Udogie – A familiar foe
Udogie will be known to England fans for his exploits for Tottenham Hotspur this campaign, as he has helped them reach the top of the Premier League table after the opening few games.
He has bagged two assists from left-back in England’s top flight, and his impressive performances could be rewarded with his first-ever start for Italy on Tuesday, after coming off the bench to earn his first senior cap against Malta.
Gianluca Scamacca – Another familiar face
Scamacca will also be recognised by Three Lions supporters having played for West Ham United last term. He scored eight goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for them, including three in the UEFA Europa Conference League, which saw the Hammers win the competition.
At six-foot-four, Scamacca is a real handful for defenders, and the now Atalanta striker will be desperate to get off the mark for his country, having not scored in 12 previous senior appearances.
Gianluca Scamacca is calm in front of goal, and matches the power on his shots with accuracy. If and when an opponent catches him, he has the strength to hold off defenders, showing good close control and the ability to get a shot off while under pressure… 🇮🇹💥

Italy predicted lineup vs England – The Final Word
It will be interesting to see how many changes Spalletti makes to the starting XI that beat Malta 4-0 on Saturday, as rarely would a manager want to change a winning side. However, with England in mind, and the games being just three days apart, he likely already had two teams he planned to play for both matches, in order to avoid fatigue.
Nonetheless, Italy know that even a draw against the group leaders away from home will put them in a strong position to qualify for Euro 2024, with Ukraine firmly on their tails. Thus, it will be intriguing to see how they approach this clash on Tuesday night.
