Inter Milan UCL wins: How many times have they won Champions League?

Inter Milan have a strong history in the Champions League/European Cup, with the Italians among the serial winners of the prestigious competition.

The Serie A outfit have lifted the famous trophy on three occasions, with that total placing them joint-seventh on the all-time winners list.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Real Madrid sit top of the pile with 14 titles, with Inter’s fierce rivals Milan sitting second with seven.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool follow with six each, with Spanish giants Barcelona closely behind them on five. Ajax are up next with four, with Inter and Manchester United both boasting three titles.

Inter Milan Champions League wins

1963/64 – Vienna

Over 70,000 people packed into the Praterstadion in Vienna, Austria, to watch Inter Milan take on Real Madrid in the 1963/64 European Cup final.

The competition was eight years old by this stage, but there had only been three winners, with Real Madrid winning the first five, as Benfica then clinched two in a row.

Inter’s rivals Milan then won their first, with Inter replying in perfect fashion as they defeated Real Madrid 3-1 to lift the famous trophy for the very first time. Sandro Mazzola fired in a double, with his teammate Aurelio Milani also finding the back of the net, with Felo netting Madrid’s only goal of the game.

1964/65 – Milan

The Italian outfit then went one better than their city rivals by clinching a second successive title in 1964/65, becoming the third club to win back-to-back titles.

Again they found themselves up against tough competition in fellow back-to-back winners Benfica, but it was the Italians who came out on top, undoubtedly boosted by the fact the match took place in their home city of Milan.

Almost 90,000 people attended the highly-anticipated clash at the San Siro, with Inter narrowly edging the affair 1-0 thanks to Brazilian forward Jair da Costa.

2009/10 – Madrid

Inter Milan were forced to wait a long, long time before picking up the prestigious trophy once more, with the Italians having to watch on over the years as various other clubs stole the limelight, including the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Ajax and, most frustratingly, AC Milan.

But the black and blue stripes of Inter finally got their hands on the trophy in 2009/10, which by now had been rebranded as the Champions League.

German giants Bayern were the opponents at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but a fine double from star striker Diego Milito saw the famous trophy go to the Italian side and their overjoyed manager Jose Mourinho, who guided his side to a 2-0 win.

Inter Milan runner-up seasons

Inter Milan will be proud of their three European Cup titles, but it could have been more, with the Italian side losing the final on two occasions.

They were denied a third title in just four seasons as they lost the 1966/67 final to Scottish giants Celtic, with the Bhoys winning the match 2-1 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Inter Milan suffered a similar fate just five years later as they failed to overcome Ajax, with the Netherlands outfit winning the 1971/72 final 2-0 in Rotterdam.
