Kylian Mbappe has predicted who he thinks will win this season’s Champions League final.
The last match of the 2022/23 competition sees English side Manchester City take on Italian outfit Inter in Istanbul, Turkey.
The match will take place under the lights at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10.
Mbappe favours Man City
PSG star Mbappe banged in seven goals in this season’s tournament, but his club fell at the round of 16 stage to German giants Bayern Munich.
Still, the France star has weighed in on who he thinks will lift the famous trophy this weekend.
“It’s going to be a great game, I am going to watch it,” said Mbappe, as quoted by the Daily Post. “I think Man City are going to win!”
Getting to the final
It’s been a very tough route for both Man City and Inter on their way to the final, with both clubs having to get past top opposition to make it to the last two.
The Manchester outfit started stronger, going unbeaten in Group G as they won four of their six matches, drawing the other two. It saw them end the standings on 14 points, clinching top spot ahead of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Copenhagen.
Inter meanwhile had a very tricky start to the campaign, with the Italians placed in Group C alongside Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.
But they battled through it, picking up three wins, one draw and two losses, with their 10 points enough to secure second place in the group.
Man City continued where they left off going into the knockout rounds, smashing RB Leipzig 8-1 on aggregate in the round of 16 as Inter edged past Porto 1-0 across two legs.
Again, Pep Guardiola’s men didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the quarter-finals as they rolled over Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate.
Inter had it slightly more comfortable this time around as they defeated Benfica 5-3 on aggregate to clinch a semi-final meeting with fierce rivals AC Milan.
And it was the black and blue of Inter who came out on top in that meeting, winning 3-0 on aggregate across the two ties at the San Siro.
Man City meanwhile had a tough test against serial Champions League winners Real Madrid, but again it was a one-sided affair as they thumped the Spaniards 5-1 on aggregate.
Mbappe among UCL top scorers
As mentioned, Mbappe found the back of the net seven times in this season’s Champions League, with that tally currently putting him joint-third in the top scoring list.
He is level with Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, with both players one behind Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah on eight.
But Man City star Erling Haaland leads the way with 12, with the Norwegian able to extend that tally against Inter on Saturday.
Mbappe’s goals this season have helped him climb to 19th place in the all-time top scoring list.
The PSG icon is already among European heavyweights such as Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema, boasting 40 goals from his 61 Champions League games.
Haaland meanwhile sits joint 21st in the all-time list, with the young striker on a phenomenal tally of 35 goals from his 29 matches, with his goals per game ratio of 1.21 unsurprisingly top of the pile.
