Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has detailed how his team can follow in the footsteps of Arsenal after watching their Amazon series.
The Gunners notably went in front of the Amazon cameras to reveal an insight into life at the club, both on and off the pitch.
And noting Arsenal’s rise in recent years, which was captured on film, Chelsa boss Lampard believes there is potential for his club to go on a similar journey.
Lampard taking inspiration from Arsenal Amazon series
Lampard’s comments come ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea at the Emirates tonight. It is a chance for the visitors to bounce back following their 2-0 home defeat to Brentford, and a chance for the hosts to go top of the table once more after losing their lead to Manchester City.
Chelsea boss Lampard believes inspiration can be taken from Arsenal’s story, with the Gunners taking their time to make it all the way back to the top of English football.
“I think it’s interesting to compare the Arsenal story with ours,’ said Lampard, as quoted by the official Chelsea website. “We all had a little insight into Arsenal and how they operate through the Amazon series and I think what you see is that there’s a long process to get to where you want to.
“I remember playing Mikel’s early teams and sometimes it was a five [at the back], sometimes a four – now you see they have a very clear identity in the way they play and a strong vision in terms of recruitment and the profile of player.
“If we talk about it as just this season in isolation, I think you have to go back to the tougher periods. Do we have the possibility to do that here at Chelsea? Yes. Will it take time and through good decisions along the way? Absolutely yes.”
Lampard ready for Arsenal test
Chelsea are without a win since Lampard returned to the dugout, with the Blues losing to Wolves, Brighton and Brentford in the league, and twice to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
But Arsenal are on a worrying run of their own, with the Gunners without a win in their last four matches. The North London outfit have drawn with Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton in that period, as well as suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Man City.
Chelsea manager Lampard remains undecided if such form means it is a good time to play against Arsenal, with the Blues either able to inflict further misery on the Gunners, or be on the receiving end of a fightback from Arteta’s men.
“It could be either way depending on how you look at things,” added Lampard. “They’re still very much in the hunt to win the Premier League, they’re a fantastic team who have had a great season.
“If they’re wounded slightly, then that could give a big reaction but equally if we can make life difficult for them, then of course that could feel different.”
