Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that Chelsea can hit 100 points next season due to the “exceptional talent” they have among their ranks.
The Blues are enduring a miserable Premier League campaign, where they currently sit 12th in the table with 39 points from their 32 matches.
The West London outfit are now into their third manager of the season in Frank Lampard, having sacked both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.
Arsenal boss suggests Chelsea revival
Chelsea have spent around £540m over the past two transfer windows under new owner Todd Boehly, with the huge number of players brought in undoubtedly having a major impact on the club’s performances.
Despite this worrying situation for the Premier League giants, who are on track to record their first bottom-half finish since the 1995/96 season, Arsenal boss Arteta believes they could recover as soon as next season.
“Next season they may get 100 points – we don’t know,” said Arteta, as quoted by the official Arsenal website. “With all that exceptional talent, if they make that work they can do anything because they have the players, the infrastructure and the history to do it.
“I cannot assess what is right and what is wrong because you cannot assess in two months when they’ve made those changes, it is not fair.
“It is extremely difficult to find that thin balance with players because in recruiting you can have the best intentions but then the player has to come here, fit in and get that chemistry with the manager, teammates, staff and the country. It is not easy at all, so credit to everybody that makes those decisions.”
Chelsea to pose a tough threat to Arsenal
After losing 2-0 at home to Brentford last time out, the Blues will be looking to begin a mini-revival this season, with Arsenal up next for Lampard’s men.
Chelsea make the short trip to North London to take on the Gunners, who have the chance to go back to the top of the table after losing their lead to Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Fulham 2-1 on Sunday to go ahead of Arsenal by a point. Arteta will be desperate for a win against Chelsea, but is expecting a tough test at the Emirates.
“I don’t know what their approach will be,” Arteta added. “They are really dangerous because when you look at the individuals that they can put on that field, for sure they have huge threats so we need to be aware of that.
“They are going to try to come to the Emirates to beat us. They have a great manager and exceptional players, so it is very difficult to predict what they will do because they can play in various ways with different players and different qualities as well. We are going to prepare for the game to win it, that’s it.
“It is going to be a very different game. It is a London derby and they have something to prove, and we have something to prove. The atmosphere is going to be incredible to play in that stadium and we are going to have to be at our best again.”
