Chelsea forward Joao Felix has praised teammate Kai Havertz, explaining that the duo have formed a close relationship on and off the pitch.
Felix is currently on loan at the Blues from Spanish side Atletico Madrid, joining the west London club in the January transfer window. He has shown glimpses of his potential in a blue shirt, but has netted just one goal from his six Chelsea matches so far.
Despite a slow start, the young Chelsea forward is confident that he and his fellow attackers will soon come to life. The Blues have endured a miserable league campaign so far, with Graham Potter’s men currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table.
Chelsea attacking duo enjoy ‘very good’ relationship
Tonight offers the club a moment of respite, in the league at least, as they welcome Borussia Dortmund to Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 encounter with the German side.
That said, Chelsea go into the game having lost the first leg 1-0. Their failures in front of goal could once again become evident in this evening’s huge match.
The Blues are among the lowest-scoring clubs in this season’s Premier League, but attacking talent Felix is certain that the attackers will soon have their moment in the spotlight.
The Portugal international singled out Havertz in particular, telling the Chelsea website: “Kai is an amazing player, everyone knows who he is and what he has done for the club.
“We have the same age and our relationship on the field and out of the pitch is very good. In football sometimes you are in a streak to score every game and then every time you don’t score, but you just have to keep working.
“For me and for the strikers, it’s always frustrating to see our team not scoring but that is football, sometimes you shoot 10 times and you don’t score goals and sometimes you shoot once and you score two!
“We just have to live with that, keeping working, keep pushing and for sure the goals will appear.”
Chelsea star opens up on Atletico struggles
Felix was one of a number of high-profile signings made by Chelsea in the January transfer window, with the Portugal international perhaps garnering the most excitement given his history.
Now 23, the attacker first burst onto the scene as a teenager for Benfica, before being quickly snapped up by Atletico for a huge €126m fee.
But various issues saw the young forward struggle in red and white, with Felix managing to score just 34 goals and record just 18 assists from his 131 matches.
It remains to be seen where his future lies at the end of the season, but for now the Portugal international is enjoying life at Stamford Bridge.
“I always try to do my best but sometimes it didn’t work so I had to change to see if the things go different, so it is important for me this loan,” added Felix.
“We don’t know what will happen but I am happy here, the group is so big it is amazing, everyone at the club is so good so I am happy to be here.”
