Bruno Fernandes has been branded “embarrassing” by Man Utd legend Gary Neville and “disgraceful” by Red Devils icon Roy Keane.
The former Man Utd duo were not best pleased with the midfielder during his and indeed his club’s dismal display at Anfield on Sunday, where they lost 7-0 to rivals Liverpool.
The Manchester outfit had been in fine form going into the game, but so were their opponents, who blew the visitors away with a stunning performance on Merseyside.
Mohamed Salah netted twice during the incredible encounter, with his attacking teammates Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also bagging braces. Substitute Roberto Firmino, who is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season, also got in on the act.
Fernandes labelled ‘embarrassing’

Fernandes was insignificant as the Reds ran riot at Anfield, with his frustration becoming more and more evident as each goal went in.
The midfielder appeared to give up chasing the ball on occasion, with the Portugal international chipping in with his usual complaints throughout the entirety of the game.
And such frustration did not go down well with ex-Man Utd full-back Neville, who played in many victories over Liverpool during his time in red.
“The second half has been an absolute disgrace,” said Neville, as per BBC Sport. “It was a shambles, epitomised by captain Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing at times.
“They’ve not understood the dangers of this fixture. The Manchester United players have been eaten alive out there.”
Neville has ‘had enough’ of midfielder’s antics
The 7-0 loss was Man Utd’s joint-heaviest competitive defeat, with the Red Devils losing by the same score against Blackburn in 1926, Aston Villa in 1930 and Wolves in 1931.
Sunday’s defeat is, however, perhaps top of the list due to the fact it came against fierce rivals Liverpool.
And Fernandes, who has been enjoying a strong season for his club, was in the thick of the action off the ball, singled out by Neville for his constant complaining and arm-throwing. The midfielder also appeared to push the referee’s assistant.
“I have had enough of Fernandes throwing his arms around, whinging at everyone, holding his face when touched,” added Neville. “That wasn’t a captain’s performance from a Manchester United player and I am sure Erik ten Hag will deal with that.
Keane brands Fernandes ‘disgraceful’
As mentioned, Neville was joined by former Man Utd teammate in the criticism of Fernandes, with the ex-Republic of Ireland international labelling Fernandes “disgraceful.”
It was the Portugal international’s body language that upset Keane the most, with the Man Utd legend annoyed at Fernandes given how he is supposed to represent all is good with the Red Devils due to his role as captain.
That wasn’t the case, however, as manager Ten Hag and his players were left shellshocked as Liverpool thumped seven past goalkeeper David de Gea.
“Fernandes’ body language today was nothing short of disgraceful,” said Keane. “A really talented boy, he’s your captain, but his body language, waving his arms, not running back… you wouldn’t be happy with him in your dressing room.”
