Man Utd continue their pursuit for a new manager, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag the current favourite.
Ralf Rangnick remains in the hot seat, but a new face is expected this summer. Ten Hag has done a superb job at Ajax, and many Man Utd supporters are strongly in favour of him taking over at Old Trafford.
If he does arrive, a huge squad change up is expected. A handful of current players could leave immediately, while many new players would be brought in.
Star player Cristiano Ronaldo could well be on his way this summer. His potential exit would not only free up squad space, but also much-needed funds.
The manager could turn to his beloved Ajax side – or indeed to his compatriots – when refreshing the Man Utd squad.
Here are five Dutch players the manager could take to Old Trafford:
Jurrien Timber
It’s no secret that the Red Devils need to sharpen up their defence. The club has had issues at full-back, but central defence is perhaps where they need to improve most. The likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane seemingly can’t quite get it right.
Ajax youngster Timber is seemingly the perfect solution. He’s confident, sharp, and prides himself on keeping clean sheets. The 20-year-old can even play at right-back and defensive midfield. Such versatility would be hugely beneficial for United.
Cody Gakpo
Both Liverpool and Barcelona are reportedly chasing PSV winger Gakpo. With 17 goals and 15 assists in all competitions this season, it’s clear to see why.
But there is no reason why Man Utd cannot join the list of suitors. They also need attacking reinforcements, and someone who can provide that much-needed spark in the final third.
Devyne Rensch
19-year-old Rensch is another to have shone for Ajax this season. The teenager has impressed at right-back. But he is also capable of slotting in at right-back or centre-back. Again, versatility is a highly valuable asset for any player in the modern era.
As mentioned, United need to improve defensively. Ten Hag enjoys attacking football, but he would be foolish to attempt such a style without a tight backline.
Elayis Tavsan
The potential Man Utd boss will, however, want to continue his attacking style. He could, therefore, turn to NEC Nijmegen forward Tavsan.
The winger has netted five times for his club this season. At just 20, the future looks very bright indeed. United need such youngsters to revitalise their squad, and provide some much-needed entertainment for the loyal supporters.
Steven Bergwijn
Bergwijn is certainly not a new kid on the block. But at just 24, the Tottenham Hotspur man has plenty to offer for many years to come. Despite his clear talent, he hasn’t quite settled into life at Spurs.
Ten Hag could take a gamble on the forward and offer him a fresh start in England. When given the chance, Bergwijn has impressed. But such opportunities perhaps haven’t come enough for his liking.
