Newcastle haven’t exactly gone crazy since their mega-money takeover, with the Magpies seemingly only spending big when they are presented with the right player.
Despite not breaking the bank time and again like many of their Premier League rivals, the club have enjoyed a superb season, with Eddie Howe doing a fantastic job in the dugout.
But European football will present a whole new level for his squad, leaving Howe with no option but to bring in several new faces this summer and perhaps say goodbye to a few familiar ones.
The Newcastle manager will want his players to repeat their heroics in the Premier League next time out, as well as do better in the domestic cups and then in Europe.
It will be a big ask, and so the boss needs a squad capable of challenging on all fronts next season.
4 players Newcastle could sign this summer

Adrien Rabiot
According to L’Equipe, Newcastle are in the running to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer. The club do, however, find themselves in a battle with Manchester United for his signature, with the Red Devils having come close to securing his services not too long ago, but ultimately failing.
The midfielder, who has shone for France at major tournaments in recent years, will see his contract at the Serie A club expire at the end of the season, and the Magpies may find they may have to spend no money at all to bring him to St James’ Park. His wages, however, could represent the biggest stumbling block.
Joao Felix
The once-promising career of Joao Felix is quickly fizzling away, with his current loan spell at Chelsea not exactly working out for all the parties involved. It may just be the case that, like many other Blues players, Felix is at a club where such talented players simply cannot thrive due to the wider struggles.
Moreover, the attacker is just 23 years old, and so has plenty of time to fix his issues and become the player that he was always destined to be. Perhaps a manager like Newcastle boss Howe can finally get the best out of the Portugal international.
Conor Gallagher
Another Chelsea player that seems destined for a move at the end of the season is midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has struggled for regular playing time given the long list of players in his position at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher has proven that he can thrive away from West London, having previously enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Crystal Palace, with a career restart perhaps incoming at Newcastle.
James Maddison
And one player that is certainly on the move at the end of the season, without any doubt, is Leicester midfielder James Maddison. The Foxes star is far too good to be playing for a club struggling in the bottom half of the table.
The England international looks certain to be in line for a summer switch regardless of what happens to Leicester next season, with Maddison’s ability on and off the ball up there with the very best midfielders in the Premier League.
