Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan is ready to “lift two more titles” after clinching the Premier League trophy this weekend.
Having trailed Arsenal for the majority of the campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side recently stormed to the top of the table and haven’t looked back.
They celebrated on Saturday as the Gunners handed them the title with a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, with Manchester City then defeating Chelsea by the same scoreline on Sunday to further their lead at the top.
Manchester City star wants treble
It was a joyous day for Manchester City, who celebrated the success in front of their own fans at the Etihad with the narrow win over the Blues.
While star midfielder Gundogan is overjoyed with the title, he wants to lift more silverware this season, with a treble on the cards for the Manchester outfit.
They meet city rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final on 3 June, with a Champions League final clash against Inter Milan coming a week later on 10 June.
Manchester City have two more league matches to play before those huge encounters, where they take on Brighton and Brentford, both away from home.
Gundogan may, however, find himself rested in those matches as the club prepares for the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
“I have no secrets,” Gundogan said after the Chelsea match, as quoted by the official Manchester City website. “Maybe my secret is to stay calm and stay patient. I focused on the important things and that is the success of the team.
“This is what we’re doing day by day. Today is special, it feels more special than previous years. Because of the atmosphere in the training ground, we’re here for each other, we fight for each other in tough periods.
“Two more finals to go, we’re looking forward to it. My arms are ready to lift two more titles.”
Gundogan shining for Manchester City
Guardiola has had a hugely talented squad to help him lift another Premier League trophy, which represents their third successive league title and fifth in six years.
Several high-profile figures have been key to the success, including the likes of phenomenal striker Erling Haaland and genius midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, with that duo linking up expertly in the final third time and time again.
But German international Gundogan has also been right up there with the most important players for Manchester City this season.
As well as his superb tackling, passing and dribbling abilities, the 32-year-old has been busy on the goals front, scoring eight times and registering five assists in his 30 league matches so far.
A versatile midfielder, Gundogan has shared how he has helped Manchester City lift another Premier League trophy.
“It’s adaptation,” he added. “The holding position requires different things to the offensive roles. This is what Pep appreciates about me.
“I’m not special in times of giving decisive goals and assists, my qualities are in terms of bringing my teammates in the best possible situations. Leading them to these kinds of simple situations. My football is simple, I try to make it simple.”
