Paul Pogba looks certain to leave Man Utd at the end of the season. The midfielder’s contract will expire this summer, and there are no signs of an extension.
His latest injury setback against Liverpool has simply furthered fan frustration. The France international has missed a large chunk of the season through injury.
When fit, the midfielder can certainly shine. He has one goal and nine assists in his 20 league matches this season. But such displays have been far too rare over recent campaigns.
Any new manager may give up on the once-promising career that Pogba had in England. A new boss could change things up completely, replacing the likes of Pogba with younger, more exciting talent.
Here are three players who could replace Paul Pogba at Man Utd:
Ryan Gravenberch
Many of Man Utd’s potential incomings will, of course, rely heavily on who is brought in as manager. Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is seemingly the man many fans want to see in the Old Trafford dugout.
His appointment would be significant in many ways. And one of those would be his links to Ajax. Given the midfield situation in Manchester, youngster Ryan Gravenberch may just be the first name on his shopping list.
At just 19, the teenager has the world ahead of him. He’s already played at the highest level for both Ajax and the Netherlands. Gravenberch has been a regular in midfield for his club this season. Importantly, he’s played in both central and defensive midfield.
Declan Rice
Of course, Man Utd could look closer to home for a Pogba replacement. Declan Rice has quickly become one of the leading defensive midfielders in world football. Like Gravenberch, he’s been starring for both club and country.
West Ham will demand a huge fee for their star man, but Man Utd certainly have the funds available. But his decision could rely on European football. Both Man Utd and the Hammers are currently involved in a battle for the final Champions League spot.
Rice’s composure, drive and passion are all traits that United desperately need. They will, however, seemingly have a huge battle on their hands. Chelsea are also reportedly showing an interest in their former player.
John McGinn
John McGinn is another Premier League rival that Man Utd have been linked with over the years. The Scotland international has been crucial for club and country in recent times. He is another who can operate centrally or in a more defensive role.
United would benefit hugely from his grit and determination. He can carry the ball, and certainly has an eye for a tackle. His energy in midfield would encourage others around him to up their game.
But the Manchester outfit may find it difficult to get past Villa boss Steven Gerrard. He will not only be reluctant to sell to a league rival, but also to Man Utd, given his history with the Red Devils.
