Last week, reigning Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen fell out of the top two for the first time since Night 3. The best that the Dutchman can hope for is a second-place finish in the standings now.

Michael van Gerwen vs Chris Dobey – Match Predictions
Contents
Michael van Gerwen is going to Finals night and will face either Gerwyn Price or Michael Smith in the semis. He takes on Chris Dobey on Thursday, who will likely finish in sixth place and has nothing to play for. Here are our darts predictions.
Prediction 1: MVG -1.5 Handicap @ 8/11 (1.73)
Michael van Gerwen had a quarter-final misfire last week. That’s three times in the last four rounds of action that he’s fallen at the first hurdle on a night of the Premier League. He starts two points behind second-placed Michael Smith, with the top spot out of sight. MVG’s league form hasn’t been great, but still is backed to win this against Dobey who has nothing to play for.
Prediction 2: Under 9.5 Legs @ 7/10 (1.70)
Three of the four Premier League meetings this season has produced no more than nine legs. So it may be worth looking towards a fairly short match coming up this Thursday as well. To further back that up, only Peter Wright has won fewer legs in this season’s PL than Dobey has done.
Michael van Gerwen and Chris Dobey Latest Form and Performances
Before this quarter-final clash in Aberdeen, in which MVG will be seeking a revival of league form, we take a dip into the current form of both competitors.
Michael van Gerwen Looks To Ramp It Up
At this rate, MVG isn’t heading towards Finals Night in red-hot form. A recent title win on the European Tour did give him a lift. But there’s been struggles with his Premier League form. MVG was out of sight at one point at the top of the table mid-season but dropped to third last week. He hasn’t been past the semi-finals in any of the last seven rounds of action.
Chris Dobey Dabbles With Disappointment
The season started so brightly for Chris Dobey, who won Night 1. But there’s been precious little from him to back that up. That having been said, he has won his quarter-final match in the last two rounds of action. That’s seen him avoid having to worry about finishing bottom of the table, but he hasn’t even been able to find consistency on the European Tour recently either.
Michael van Gerwen vs Chris Dobey Head to Head
The head-to-head is surprisingly even between Dobey and MVG. In the last six meetings, there have been three wins each. It’s two wins each from the four meetings in this season’s PL as well.
