England’s Jude Bellingham has been one of the most impressive young prospects at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the rumors surrounding the midfielder’s possible move to Liverpool has Reds’ fans very excited.
Bellingham was perhaps the best player on the field in England’s recent 3-0 win over Senegal in the tournament’s final round of 16. The young star assisted Jordan Henderson for the game’s opening goal and played a part in Harry Kane’s second too. The Dortmund player has also started all four of England’s World Cup ties despite still being only 19 years old.
Bellingham Has Starred in Qatar
Bellingham is undoubtedly one of the most promising young players in the World and though he has been doing well in Germany’s Bundesliga, his performances at the World Cup have seen a lot of speculation as to where he will move next.
Of course, Premier League clubs from his native country of England have been mentioned the most. Chelsea and Man City have been mentioned but it seems Liverpool is the club with which he is most linked. The news of Merseyside interest is no surprise as manager Jurgen Klopp is known to be interested in the midfielder.
His current crop of players have struggled with injuries and form this season and Bellingham could be a well-needed injection of youth to the team. Dortmund will be sure to charge a heft sum for their player though, who they would like to hold on to for a little longer.
Last Summer’s Transfer Rumor
Bellingham left Birmingham City for 25 million GBP in July of 2020 and is under contract in Germany until June 2025. Therefore, Dortmund will be well within their rights to charge a big sum for their star midfielder.
Liverpool Ties
Still though, Liverpool fans will be optimistic not only thanks to Bellingham’s class on the field of play, but his recent words too. Speaking to the BBC recently, Bellingham said Steven Gerrard, a Liverpool legend, was his biggest England hero.
“Gerrard was probably my biggest one,” he said, “The character he has, besides the football, is world class and then you add on his ability and it’s a joke really.”
He told the interviewer that any comparisons between him and Gerrard as of yet were “disrespectful” toward the ex-Liverpool star, showing a real modesty to fans. The young midfielder is also reported to have a good friendship with a young Liverpool star in the shape of right full back, Trent Alexander Arnold. Last week the pair featured in an Instagram post together in Qatar captioned by Arnold with “Stroll in the city with Bro.”
Bellingham is also rumored to have a great relationship with Reds captain Jordan Henderson, and celebrated together after Henderson scored on Sunday. Bellingham later revealed that he had been unhappy with the criticism of Henderson before that match.
“I’ve seen some of the rubbish said about him, it’s ridiculous – he’s so underrated technically,” Bellingham said of his Liverpool’s Henderson. “It’s about time he gets a bit of praise.
With all of this, it is no wonder that Bellingham has been reported to be Liverpool’s top transfer target. It is unlikely they will get him in January but a summer transfer may be likely if it suits the midfielder.
