Wolves vs Liverpool predicted lineups: Defensive selection concerns for Jurgen Klopp

Wolves and Liverpool face off in the first match as the Premier League returns from the international break. It’s a 12:30 kick-off at Molineux and the visitors know they’ll go top of the table if they can pick up all three points.

Wolves vs Liverpool predicted lineups and news

Wolves and Liverpool are at opposite ends of the early Premier League table. The West Midlands club are 15th having lost 3 of their opening 4 fixtures while Liverpool have dropped just 2 points so far and sit 3rd.

The game will live in the UK on TNT Sports with the visitors the clear favourites despite some notable selection problems.

Team news: Wolves

Wolves’ only points so far this term came against Merseyside opposition when they won 1-0 at Everton in August. 3 of their opening 4 league games have been away meaning this will be just their second Premier League outing at Molineux, the other being the 4-1 defeat to Brighton in August.

It has been a shaky start for the recently appointed Gary O’Neil but his squad is at least in pretty good shape selection wise. They should be able to field their strongest eleven with 20 year old Irishman Joe Hodge potentially the only injury absentee.

O’Neil will still have some doubts as to what exactly his best eleven is though after Wolves lost some key men this summer including Matheus Nunes who joined Man City.

Wolves predicted lineup

Sa, Ait Nouri, Kilman, Dawson, Semedo, Gomes, Lemina, Neto, Sarabia, Silva, Cunha

Team news: Liverpool

Liverpool are missing the suspended Virgil Van Dijk again here. They coped pretty well without the Dutchman last time out though with an impressive 3-0 win at Anfield against Aston Villa after a fine comeback win with 10 men at Newcastle.

Jurgen Klopp has extra defensive headaches in this match though. Trent Alexander-Arnold is a doubt with a hamstring problem while Ibrahima Konate will also be monitored prior to kick-off due to injuries.

The early Saturday kick-off is also less than ideal for Liverpool’s South American contingent who have had long trips back to England after playing in World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday. Klopp could consider resting the likes of Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez who picked up a minor knock for his country.

Liverpool predicted lineup

Alisson, Robertson, Gomez, Matip, Alexander-Arnold, Jones, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Nunez, Salah

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold play?

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold after the right back picked up a hamstring issue that made him withdraw from the England squad over the international break.

It’s thought to be nothing serious and Liverpool are hopeful he will pass a late fitness test that will allow the 24 year old to wear the captain’s armband once more. 20 year old Jarell Quansah could fill in if Alexander-Arnold doesn’t make it.
