The defending champions USWNT were lacklustre at best in their final game of the group when they narrowly avoided a shocking defeat vs Portugal. The Americans drew 0-0 to progress through the knockouts as second in their group. However, they nearly got eliminated with the post saving them in stoppage time. DF Naomi Girma 6/10 – Her late mistake nearly saw USWNT eliminated. Got away with it. Wasn’t convincing all match.
DF Crystal Dunn 7/10 – Carried threat going forward. Also, had the most crosses in the team.
MF Rose Lavelle 6/10 – In her first start after injury looked rusty. Played well early on but got tired in the second half.
MF Andi Sullivan 6/10 – Her passing was off the mark again. Defensively did a lot of dirty work well though.
MF Lindsey Horan 6/10 – The captain was solid but not impactful.
FW Lynn Williams 7/10 – Given an unexpected start. She was lively. Created most of the good moments for her team.
FW Alex Morgan 6/10 – Morgan continued to misfire. Squandered the 3 best chances. She is yet to score this World Cup.
FW Sophia Smith 6/10 – The hero from the first game Smith had a very quiet match.
Substitutes
MF Megan Rapinoe 7/10 – Introduced on the hour and steadied the ship well. The veteran led with her experience while on the pitch.

GK Ines Pereira 8/10 – Made 4 very good saves. Rock solid all match.
DF Ana Borges 6/10 – Solid but struggled to keep Williams quiet.

MF Andreia Norton 6/10 – Never did enough offensively.

MF Tatiana Pinto 6/10 – Lost in the action for over 80 minutes. Came to life only late on.
MF Dolores Silva 7/10 – Dominant in midfield. Took the fight to the Americans late on and nearly scored the winner.

FW Jessica Silva 5/10 – Largely quiet. Never had a sniff at goal.
FW Diana Silva 7/10 – The most aggressive forward. Caused some major problems with her solo runs.

The Portuguese goalie Ines Pereira played very well. She produced 4 strong saves and was worthy of her clean sheet. Unfortunately for her, those efforts were not enough to see the Portuguese through.
