Christian Pulisic has been advised to move to Leeds United during the summer transfer window if the Whites are able to avoid Premier League relegation.
The American, who has featured just eight times for the Blues in all competitions this season, has missed the previous seven league matches due to a persistent knee injury, but USMNT icon Alexi Lalas believes a move to Elland Road may be precisely what he needs to reignite his career.
Ex-USMNT International Recommends Leeds Move for Pulisic
“This is familiarity, this is a step down within the EPL,” Lalas claimed on his State of the Union Podcast. “I can argue in different ways, but when it comes to Leeds, we know this is a team that will struggle and this is a team that need something.
“To caveat this, this is if Leeds stay up,” Lalas said, “I do not want Pulisic playing in the Championship, but if Leeds stay up this is a potential move.”
“He has his friends there, he has an American connection there,” he added.
“It would be a different environment because Leeds are this team that struggles every year to be a medium level team and there may be some comfort and that step down may provide him an opportunity to do some different teams.”
Leeds’ Links to Woodman Grow Stronger
In other Leeds related transfer news, the latest reports have seen the club’s transfer link to Preston North End’s ‘keeper Freddie Woodman increase over the past week or so.
According to The Sun newspaper, Leeds have moved to “reignite” their interest in signing the Championship side’s starting ‘keeper.
It has been reported by the outlet that the 25-year-old, who has previously played for Newcastle United and a whole host of other EFL clubs in various loan periods, is on the Whites’ radar.
However, the Yorkshire side will face stiff competition from rival Premier League clubs and beyond in order to get him.
According to the source, one of the interested parties is Leicester City. In addition, Scottish giants Rangers like what they see in Woodman, who has maintained 14 clean sheets in his 34 league outings this season.
Preston got off to a solid start to their Championship campaign this season as their defense proved very difficult to breakdown. However, a lack of goals at the other end of the field and a recent dip in form has seen the side drop to mid-table and it is now looking unlikely that they will challenge for a play-off position.
This latest report linking Woodman to Leeds come after numerous reports have emerged stating that Man United are interested in signing the Peacock’s young star ‘keeper, Ilan Meslier.
Meslier has often led the save charts in the Premier League since Leeds’ promotion as the side have struggled defensively and relied on their young French netminder to keep them in games.
The France U21 ‘keeper has buit up quite a reputation for himself as a shot-stopper for Leeds and looks destined for a call up to Didier Deschamps’ senior international side.
Man United aren’t the only side linked with a move for the goalie as Spurs have also been rumored to be interested in Meslier as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
