The last time the two nations met was in March, when England were 2-0 victors at Wembley to mark Ukraine’s only defeat so far in the group. It was a fixture dominated by the hosts in London, with goals from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka determining where the points would lie at full time.
Both sides have built some form since the game in March, making tonight’s showdown an interesting meeting.
Team news: Ukraine
Despite losing to England in their opening match, Ukraine have now found their feet in the group stage, winning their previous two fixtures to build some momentum. Such form sees them second in the group ahead of tonight’s match up, with Italy just behind them in third with a game in hand.
A late goal sealed a 3-2 win against North Macedonia in June, followed by a simple 1-0 win against Malta the same month on their journey to claim two wins.
On the injury front, Mykola Shaparenko has withdrawn from the squad with Ruslan Malinovskyi the only other absentee to report.
A boost for Serhiy Rebrov’s side is the return of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was absent in the June fixtures due to injury. The Arsenal defender made his first start of the Premier League season last weekend, fully recovering from his calf injury that had him sidelined.
Ukraine predicted lineup
Lunin, Konoplya, Zabarnyi, Krystov, Mykolenko, Stepanenko, Sydorchuk, Zinchenko, Yarmolenko, Vanat, Tsygankov
Team news: England
England have made a perfect start to the qualifiers, making it four wins from four to lead the way in Group C.
Gareth Southgate’s side have been victorious against all the teams in the group, scoring 15 goals in four games, with their biggest win coming through a 7-0 victory over North Macedonia in June.
It’s imperative that England qualify for the Euros, considering their agony in the 2020 tournament in which they fell short in the final to Italy by penalties at Wembley.

There are some notable absentees from the squad ahead of the next games, with Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold being unavailable for selection. The duo join Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and John Stones who will also not feature tonight.
England’s Player of the Year, Bukayo Saka, is expected to be in action tonight, as well as superstar Jude Bellingham, who has been relishing his new life in Madrid with Los Blancos – the two players have been nominated for the prestigious Ballon D’Or.
England predicted lineup
Pickford, Walker, Guehi, Maguire, Chilwell, Bellingham, Rice, Henderson, Saka, Kane, Rashford
Will Andriy Yarmolenko feature?
Former West Ham United forward and Ukraine captain Andriy Yarmolenko is expected to feature this evening against England, with the winger on the hunt for goals.
The 33-year-old is just four goals away from overtaking Ukrainian legend Andriy Shevchenko as the country’s leading goalscorer, making his desire to score just that little more prominent.
After rejoining his boyhood club Dynamo Kyiv in the summer, the forward has already scored three goals in three league games in the 2023/24 campaign, and will be a threat for England to consider.
