Tottenham Hotspur Team News: Spurs Set to Struggle Without Injured Trio and Dier Suspension
Tottenham Hotspur will look to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night when AC Milan visits North London.
Tottenham fell to Milan 1-0 in the first leg of their match on February 14, so the Premier League club has work to do to move to the quarterfinals.
Yet, Antonio Conte’s squad enters this encounter on the heels of consecutive losses to Sheffield United in the FA Cup and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
The Premier League club have come under real pressure due to those recent results and may find a lot of fans unhappy if they cannot secure Champions League football for next season, or progress past Milan tonight.
Though they are still in fourth place in the Premier League, the North London side have been decimated by injuries. Particularly in midfield, with Eric Dier, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma out, the side could struggle to control play.
Earlier in the week it was revealed that Conte will return to the sideline for this encounter after recovering from a gallbladder surgery. This may offer a well needed boost to the home side.
Injuries: Rodrigo Betancur, Yves Bissouma, Hugo Lloris, Ryan Sessegnon
Suspensions: Eric Dier
AC Milan Team News: Brahim Diaz Set to Make Return from Injury
AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has announced that Brahim Diaz is fit to play against Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday in North London.
The Spaniard, who scored the lone goal in a 1-0 first-leg victory for the Rossoneri, missed the weekend’s league loss to Fiorentina due to a knee sprain and has been limited to individual training as of late.
Diaz has proven his fitness, and the ex-Manchester City player should be included in the starting lineup upon his return to English soil.
The Rossoneri left Mike Maignan off their squad list for the first match due to a calf ailment, but the French goalkeeper has now fully recovered and been reinstated to their European roster.
Milan should not pass up the opportunity to play their first-choice goalkeeper, relegating Ciprian Tatarusanu to the bench, while Fikayo Tomori, who was held out of the first leg as a precaution, is fit and ready to go.
Malick Thiaw could be the unfortunate centre-back to miss out as Tomori joins Pierre Kalulu and the returning Simon Kjaer at the back, while Alex Saelemaekers and Theo Hernandez should play on the flanks.
Rade Krunic is returned from a domestic suspension and should pair Sandro Tonali in the centre, displacing former Arsenal player Ismael Bennacer. Meanwhile, star forward Rafael Leao served a Serie A suspension over the weekend and should replace Ante Rebic.
Injuries: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sergino Dest, Yacine Adli, Tiemoue Bakayoko.
