Sunderland 2-0 Middlesbrough – January 2023

Sunderland made the most of a Dael Fry card just after the break to pick up a 2-0 victory in the most recent encounter between the two clubs. Ross Stewart and Amad Diallo provided the goals in this game, as Sunderland picked up a first home win over Boro since 2008.

Middlesbrough made it four successive home wins against Sunderland after a 1-0 success in the game. Riley McGree’s 25th minute goal was enough to separate the two teams on the evening. The victory also extended Boro’s unbeaten streak at home to Sunderland to 4 matches.

The remarkable 3-3 draw which unfolded on the day not only witnessed six goals in total but there was also one red card for each team. Jake Clarke-Salter and Adama Traore were sent off in the space of 13 first-half minutes.

Sunderland have been playing some excellent football of late. The team has been enjoying its football and it has been visible from many of the recent results. They will be quite hard to break at the Stadium of Light. Despite managing four successive wins, Boro will be the underdogs. Michael Carrick’s team, though, can give a close contest.
