Real Madrid are plotting to sign both Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham this summer according to the latest reports.
Alongside their promising pursuit of Bellingham, Los Blancos have set their sights on signing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe in what would be a remarkable – and extraordinarily expensive – double transfer swoop.
Real Madrid continue to negotiate with Borussia Dortmund’s Bellingham over a deal expected to exceed £120 million, while his club attempt to recoup the maximum fee feasible for the English midfielder.
Real Madrid Planning Next ‘Galacticos’ Team
While such a significant expenditure would suffice for most elite clubs in a single transfer window, Bernabeu executives have bigger plans and want to create the next ‘Galacticos’ team around Mbappe and Bellingham.
Two years ago, Real Madrid made a world-record £170 million offer for the PSG forward, whom they have long admired.
According to a report from the Telegraph, Mbappe has since signed a new contract with the Parc des Princes, but that hasn’t dampened Madrid’s interest.
Mbappe, 24, held discussions with the reigning La Liga and European champions prior to penning a contract extension that will keep him in his home city of Paris for one more season beyond the current campaign, with an option for an additional year.
As has become customary for PSG each summer, the French club is in disarray as the transfer window approaches.
Discontent In Paris May Fuel Mbappe Departure
Mbappe’s star teammate, Lionel Messi, will likely depart at the end of his contract in June – a situation PSG attempted to avoid by offering him a lucrative new contract – and after six years in Paris, Neymar is also available for transfer to another club.
President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his staff want to build a new team around Mbappe, but he is not pleased with the club’s recent decisions. In April, Mbappe publicly criticized PSG for using his image conspicuously in season ticket marketing materials.
“I disagree with this posted video,” the France international declared. “It is certainly not Kylian Saint-Germain.”
Mbappe’s potential transfer to Madrid is however less probable than Bellingham’s. The 19-year-old midfielder, who has been courted by every major club in Europe, is believed to have decided on his next move after spending three seasons in Dortmund honing his skills.
Reigning Premier League champions Man City also have a remote possibility of luring the English youngster to the Premier League.
Bellingham has remained silent regarding his future, despite Dortmund reportedly offering him a lucrative contract extension to remain for at least another year.
By signing Bellingham and Mbappe, Real Madrid would be well-positioned for both the present and the future.
While aging stars such as Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Karim Benzema have entered the twilight of their respective careers, Los Blancos have youthful talents such as Vinicius Junior, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga at their disposal.
These young talents will ensure that Real Madrid remain a super team both in Spain and Europe if the rumored transfers go through. Were Madrid to defeat Man City at the Etihad this Wednesday and go on to win the Champions League final, they would receive a further boost in funds and prestige that would allow them to compete for both Mbappe and Bellingham.
