Paris-Saint Germain have made contact with Crystal Palace regarding one of the Premier League side’ star wingers, according to the latest reports.
The French champions are eager to bring in talent as Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr are set to depart the Ligue 1 giants this summer. Messi is expected to join MLS side Inter Miami while Neymar is fielding multiple offers, the latest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, PSG have made initial contact with Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha in an attempt to acquire him when his contract with the London based club expires this summer.
Le Parisien has reported that the French champions have entered the sweepstakes for the Ivorian international, who apparently has multiple offers on the table as his contract is set to expire on June 30th.
One of those offers has come from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, who reportedly offered £45 million to lure Zaha to the Saudi Pro League, where he would play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. In addition, rival club Al-lttihad has offered him a contract to relocate to the middle east and play in Saudi Arabia.
PSG offer Zaha opportunity to finally play in Europe
Zaha, who has never featured in a European competition, is believed to be awaiting offers from European clubs, with Atletico Madrid also rumored to be interested in the 30-year-old. It is believed that the long-time Palace player’s goal is to play in the Champions League.
However, now it is believed that PSG have entered the contest, with Luis Campos reportedly keeping a close eye on Wilfried Zaha for an extended period of time, and recent discussions have taken place in an effort to finalize a transfer for the footballer.
The exciting winger, who has been prone to injury in recent years, played 28 times for the Eagles last season, scoring 6 goals.
Crystal Palace have offered him a new contract worth nearly £200,000 per week plus bonuses, making him their highest-paid player in order to get him to stay. Zaha has not yet ruled out remaining in South London.
When he moved to Manchester United in 2013, he was considered one of the most exciting young players in the country. He made his debut for the club in 2009.
Zaha experience could bolster PSG in restructured transfer approach
Despite being signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Zaha failed to make an impact under his successors and, after spending a season on loan at Cardiff, returned to Crystal Palace on loan in 2013 before re-signing the following year.
Zaha has appeared in over 450 games for the club, scoring 90 goals, and is regarded as one of Crystal Palace’s finest players of all time.
Internationally, he has earned 33 caps for Ivory Coast, despite making two friendly appearances for England between 2012 and 2013.
With PSG aiming to restructure their approach to focus on young players, Zaha does not quite fit the mold of footballer pundits had expected the side to move for. However, the side will also need more experienced players if they are to succeed in European competition and Zaha would fit that role perfectly.
On a free contract, his wages may well be high but not at the level of some of PSG’s recent stars such as Neymar, Messi and Angel Di Maria.
