PSG Explore the Possibility of Hiring Jose Mourinho this Summer

PSG and Jose Mourinho always seemed destined to be a marriage made in heaven from the moment the French club were bought by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011. Back then, Mourinho was the most sought-after football manager in the world after winning the treble with Inter Milan in 2009/10.

The Portuguese maestro was the manager of Real Madrid at the time and was plotting how he could overthrow Pep Guardiola’s side as the best club in Spanish football, and the world. Eventually, Mourinho accomplished this feat when he led his Madrid team to La Liga glory in the 2011/12 season, breaking the Spanish record for goals scored in a single season in the process.

Fast forward twelve years and Mourinho and PSG have yet to be paired with one and other despite Mourinho managing four clubs since leaving Madrid in 2013 and PSG rattling through countless managers as they search for Champions League glory.

However, according to reports, the French club have made contact with Jose Mourinho and his representatives about a sensational move to Paris this summer to replace the current manager, Christophe Galtier. While the talks are only at a preliminary stage, it is surely a move that would appeal to Mourinho given his desire to manage at the top level once again.

Swapping Rome for Paris

After being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019, it seemed as if Mourinho’s days as a head coach at a top European Club were over. However, after taking an 18-month break from the game, he was appointed as the new Roma manager and he has certainly been a success in the Italian capital.

In his first season, he led the club to their first major trophy in 14 years when he won the Europa Conference League and this year he has taken them to the semi-final of the Europa League. They have also been inside Serie A’s top four for much of the season although it now looks like they’ll miss out on Champions League qualification for next year as they are five points adrift following some poor results.

Mourinho, who is growing tired of the Italian officials in Serie A, hasn’t had much of a budget to work with yet he is on the verge of winning back-to-back European trophies for the club and immortalising himself in the eternal city.

Despite that, a move to PSG would likely tempt him away from Rome. He would get to work with Luis Campos again, whom he had a fantastic relationship with at Real Madrid, and he would have a legitimate shot at winning his third Champions League considering the money he would have at his disposal.

A huge summer for PSG

A potential managerial swap is arguably the least important matter to resolve this summer for the Parisian giants. There are doubts about the futures of their three superstar forwards, with Lionel Messi reportedly set to move to Saudi Arabia, Neymar looking to move to the Premier League and Kylian Mbappe back on the radar of Real Madrid.

Perhaps a fresh start with all three leaving in one summer and a new manager being brought in to work from a blank canvas wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world after several years of disappointment, particularly in Europe.
