According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain are willing to contemplate a reunion with former head coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of next season.

The decision to replace Mauricio Pochettino with Christophe Galtier was made by the French giants last summer as a result of their Champions League elimination in the round of 16.

Although PSG remain at the top of the Ligue 1 rankings, their heartbreak from last season has been replicated, as they lost 3-0 on aggregate to Bayern Munich following the second leg of their last 16 tie with the German giants earlier this week.

A loss at that stage of the competition is a catastrophe for the club that have prioritized Champions League victory over everything else under their ownership, but so is failing to register a single goal during the course of the two legs.

Galtier was already under pressure to preserve his position at Parc des Princes, but a recent victory at Marseille gained him a temporary reprieve.

Yet, with PSG failing to make a long run in European football’s elite competition once again, his eventual exit seems as certain as Pochettino’s.

Tuchel Reunion on the Cards at PSG?

According to the media outlet Relevo, PSG’s club executives are now willing to attempt to persuade Tuchel to return to the French city.

From May 2018 to December 2020, the German manager led PSG from the sidelines. He got the side to the Champions League final in 2020, where they fell to Bayern Munich by a slim margin.

Behind-the-scenes disagreements prompted Tuchel’s departure from the club at the end of that season, after which he was named head coach of Chelsea and won the Champions League with the Premier League side at the end of that season.

Tuchel has been unemployed since September, when Chelsea’s new owners opted for a new beginning under their intended direction for the London club.

However,  49-year-old Tuchel continues to be linked to various high-profile posts.

In the past, it has been speculated that Tuchel would like to lead Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future, but a new challenge is his preference, according to the article.

Nonetheless, PSG executives reportedly now have a positive relationship with Tuchel and would welcome him back if he desired to return to the club.

PSG Still Top Dogs in Ligue 1

Galtier is poised to remain in charge for Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Brest as PSG attempts to expand its advantage to 11 points.

The club currently lead Marseille by eight points after 26 games played in the French tier.

However, it looks as if the manager’s time may well be up at the Parisian side given the links to Tuchel and other managers.

PSG have garnered a reputation as being a very difficult side to oversee. With mega stars of football such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr, the squad have often proven a difficult task when it comes to reaching their potential.

Given Tuchel’s experience of managing star players at PSG and later on Chelsea, he may be the man best positioned to take over the Ligue 1 leaders, though it does not guarantee any European success.
